Default A Bigger Me-109

Now that my P-38 is in the finishing stage, I'm starting to plan my next build. I'd like to do an Me-109, and I'd really like it to be IMAA-legit for some of the big-bird fly-ins. I'd really like to go with the Platt plans, but it's only 79", IMAA requires at least 80". Meister looks like they have a nice set of plans at 85", but I haven't heard too much about them.

So I'm looking for suggestions on what plans are available, of good scale integrity, and fiberglass/plastic parts are available. I'm tempted to go with Platt and try to sneak in at 79", or even blow them up 1.25 % to hit 80".

There is a guy in Battle Creek MI that enlarges the Platt plans to 84", he can then use many of the ABS parts from Miester. PM me your email address and I will forward it to him. He also has many many parts that he has glass molds for.

Ampeater, Do yourself a huge favor...go with the Meister Scale...they fly incredibly, and are a relatively easy build. Meister along with the 85" also does a 101" 109...you can detail them as much as you desire. Now with that being said, if you want a really kick butt 109 and have some $$ to burn, check out PCM's...this bird really rocks...but a much bigger pucker factor is also necessary.
Call Dino at Meister, he'll take good care of you, he's a great guy!

PM me if interested. I have a partially built 106 inch from AE fuse and enlarged wing plans from Baskins. The prototype flew flawlessly. It is all based on the Meister, but has a semi-symmetrical wing. I used Platt plans for the tail, and Meister/Pat McCurry parts. A hodge-podge of parts. I also have the Shindin gear. You can see the finished version on www.rcwarbirds.com under projects "Frankenschmidt"

Thanks for all the info, guys. 84" would be the perfect size I had in mind. But what is the difference between the Platt plans and the Meister, I'm a pretty accomplished builder, so complexity doesn't bother me. If the Platt are more scale, I'll go with them blown up to 84".

Jetster, what weight are you running. I'll be electrifying it (I know, sacralidge to some, but I need to for my field), so I'd like to keep it under 20 pounds. That's a great looking bird, which retracts are you using?

Ampeater, one weights 16,the other 17.5 if you go elec. should be even lighter,I used both CJ gear that was for the 84" meister and gear from seirra giant scale darrel made for me, darrels gear are more scale, both work well. Rich

Ampeater, Give F4u5 a PM also. In my opinion the Platt is more scale, however the Meister is a better flying airplane. Jeff may have the perfect solution to get the best of both in one! Best of luck with your project.
