Default scale tire size TF P-47

thought I had read that a close to scale size tire for the 60 size was about 4" TF recomends a 3 1/4 wheel seems like a little small for the jug, I prefer a larger wheel and if its scale then all the better any opinions. I am also building this plane as a gasser my first one just waiting for delivery

Hey Tim,

3.25 is much smaller than scale, but it's about all you can fit into the bays if you build them according to plan. Look way back on Peter Oz's thread and you can see how to relocate the landing gear to a more scale location and retract a larger wheel into the center of the wing. I caught on too late, so I have 3.25's.

Good luck,

Tom

The problem you will encounter is the Spar. TF puts the spar in a typical sport plane location and its in the way of the wheel.
The gear on a P-47 does not retract straight up but retracts aft toward the center section of the wing. The compromise is to use a smaller wheel for the sake of building simplicity.
I got around that entire issue when I built the older TF kit. I used a foam wing from Wing Mfg and put the gear where it should be in the first place.
If you want to use a scale wheel then you'll have to modify the spar significantly.

The actual scale size is a little over 4" but slightly less than 4.25". I went with 3.75" for now, but I might up it to 4" after the first flight. you can check my thread ( [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_2856415/anchors_2856415/mpage_1/key_dallas%252Cblonde/anchor/tm.htm#2856415]TF P-47 build "Dallas Blonde"[/link] ) to see how I redesigned the wing to retract like the full size.

think I will go with your mods for the larger tire I think it will be worth the extra effort some of the details on the planes are just awsome looking

I am going with the robart diamond tread 4" they have a close enough scale look for a 60 size, and the CJ retracts the struts look pretty good
