Attention ALL experienced Top Flight 1/5 scale P-51 Mustang pilots!
Our time has come, in about one week My Dad & I will be puttin this puppy in the air and I'm looking for ANY advise I can get out there, so if you guys (or gals!) could give me any advise, input, good or bad my ears (in this case eyes) are open!! You guys all know what I talkin here, my knees are already knockin just writing this out thinking about it!

I do have to final balance yet, so I guess I'm looking for a good balance point. Is the number on the plan good? or should it be moved??
How about the flaps, how should they be use on this compaired to others??
Any input WELCOME
Thank You,
Bud & Mark Willey

Oh forgot! were running a Moki 2.10 with bisson muffler
Mejzlik 20-8 prop, On-Board Glow
What would be the best fuel for the 2.10?
Weight - not sure exactly yet but I'm guessin about 24-25.5 area?

Also I want to share with you guys these neat exhaust manifolds I bought from Tony at Pacific Scaled Aircraft, Just received them a couple weeks ago, "seen them had to have them" So I took the stock exhaust off and installed the PSA exhaust "just the right scale!!". Very nice kit!! added the finishing touch!! makes the nose look a little longer also, it needed that!!

The TF manifolds are exactly 1" longer (too long) then PSA's
Great Job Tony!!
Guy's Check them out here!!

Hello again, thanks for your answer. Here in Sweden its warm and sunny, but a little bit too windy for flying.
I also have a TF Giant P-51, which we electrified. It worked well except for the heat, it got too warm, so now we are changing to 3W-50. We made a scale cockpit and opened up the canopy. It is really a nice flying plane.

Mark that is one fantastic P51 . You and your dad did a great job .
You have to elaborate on some of your methods , like the panle lines , riviots , interior ect .
Sorry I cant help you with the flying part , I am only at 73" max span so far , working my way up
Good luck ,
How far is your field from Lancaster Pa , 17517 ?[8D]

Can't help much except the fuel . Moki's run great on Omega 5% that's what they recomend. Be sure and run a few tanks on the ground. Make sure there's enough air flow over the head and a large enough exit to get rid of all that heat, 3 times the intake is the norm. Should fly great haven't heard of any issues with T/F. Good luck.

Outstanding job on the P-51.
Those manifolds are a beautiful finishing touch and are the most realistic I’ve seen. Every mustang kit build could certainly use a set and you did an excellent job of finishing and painting them! It is amazing how all the fine details add up to make the aircraft.
I believe Pacific Scaled Aircraft has them for sale in the RCU Market Place http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/ for various Mustang kits and ARFs. Search on Mustang.

Whiley, Excellent Job. I have built and assembled five of these Mustangs, one for myself and four for my customers. Balance the plane with a slight nose down attitude at the recomended GC location in manual. Use the recommended throws. You will be amazed how little aileron and elevator throw you need. These birds were designed right and fly fantastic!!!!!!!!!
Good luck on your maden flight.

Guys, thank you for the kind words, We've had a lot fun building and putting the finishing touches on, it's amazing what a little paint and alot of masking can do!! All graphics are painted on, no stickers.
One thing I wanted to share with you guys (these are Dad's ideas, his name is Bud Willey, the actual owner of this warbird, he completely built this 51 up to the glassing, then I took it from there. I am you would say" the detailer/customizer puttin the chrome on type guy!"LOL) look close and behind the seat on top of the gererator we put the glow starter indicator light and the Robart air presure gauge, also in the lower dash we installed the glow stater toggle switch and charging recepicals, cool idea I thought! I'll bet Chuck Yeager wished he had those when he was flying the 51
Gary thanks for that info much appreiciated,we'll do that, how should the nose drop when balancing - fast/slow?? and would you balance upright or inverted what's the best way with this type of bird? How far are you from Erie, PA, would love to see your fiberclassic someday, awsome job!! Hats off to ya!!
rcmike, thanks for the moki tip!

Mark. balance the plane per the plans. You don't need flaps for landing but you can use them if you want. The plane handels very well in all attitudes. You may need nose weight with the Moki 2.1 but don't worry about it. Just get the CG right.
Take offs are pretty much straight ahead with the addition of rudder. Let her lift off and climb out when it's ready to fly. In other words, don't horse it off the ground.
Its a very enjoyable plane to fly with no bad habits. Good luck on the Maiden..
PS yes 5 or no percent nitro for the Moki.

great looking stang,
I've flown the TF arf all summer with no snags - great flying model, the only advice I could add is to keep some speed on landing and wheel land on the main gear, just let her fly down to the mains - I now stay away from warbird 3 point landings - too many bounces - maybe it's just me.
I'm also a bit nose heavy.

Willey, I'm in Troy, Ohio. Come on down! I balance all low wing aircraft inverted. Just me. I know the instructions show it right side up with the gear down. I normally have the gear in the retracted position. It probably has little effect on the CG on this particular model. The model should not swing on the balance point at all when properly balanced. The instructions say balance with the stab level. I balance it with the nose down about 10 degrees. This would have the horizontal stab up just a little. This will make the plane less pitch sensitive, and make landing easier. Learned this from the Master. Greg Hahn.
I have just started another giant TF ARF for another customer today. He will use the new Fuji 43 EI 2 for power. The Fuji 43 has been updated. They told me the new model has larger crank bearings. All other specks are the same. He will use Robart gear with Hitec servos, JR trans, Aerotech wheels, a Dave Brown spinner. I have just glued in the hinges on one wing panel and will do the other wing next.
I hope to see some of you next week in Muncie, Ind for the Scale Masters. I believe this will be the first time the Scale Masters has been to the national flying site.
I will be doing static and flight judging. Hope the weather stays warm for one more week...LOL
good day
