Default Meister 118" Zero

Im thinking about a meister 118" Zero. Maybe enlargement of plans to make it a 1/3 scale that would make the WS-157". So my question is what is your thoughts, and experiences with this plan and build. Also what are some engine recomendations with the 1/3 scale version? Also looking for all input and thoughts about the possible project?

Let me be the first to tell you that this 118 inch Zero is fantastic. I had one. I bought mine from Rob Bailey. Ty Brown built it, and it was the prototype. Rob bought it from Ty. I flew it for a summer and gave it a new paint job. I sold it to a friend, who since has sold it to someone in Colorado. It weighed 44 pounds and had CJM retracts that actually held up well. It was powered with a Q-75 and a 22x12 prop. Eveyone who has owned it has loved it. It is still flying. You can't go wrong with it.

Why so big?? If you go that size you should build the fuse out of aluminium it would be lighter. It is a great flying plane and its very easy to build. As is. I loved the ones I had and they are impressive in the air. Q-75 is great engine and flies it well. For vertical Q-100 or equilivent. GT-80 would also be a nice twin for it. CJM gear works fine in it. I never had any problems. If you build it double the landing gear plate to 1/2" thick. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask. I have built about 5-6 of these...

Well the reason i wanted so big is that not everyone has a plane that large. But as i think about the size i think the 118" would be perfect, it is still large and should be a show stopper! Plus it might help a little to cut down $ if i go with a 118"! Please post some pics of the Zeros that yall built! Thanks for the commits and suggestions! Its late.

Sounds like an excellent project! The Miester Zero (118") is a real sweet bird to fly...I bought the protoype from Ty, flew it myself, sold it to Jeff... well you already know the lineage. I think this would be a fantastic candidate for 1:3 scale powered with the RC Showcase 215 cc 5 cylinder radial engine! You could really trick out the airframe, and not have to worry too much about the weight...and the sound of that engine is really sweet! Actually the model would sound much better than the real Zero...my Dad was in the Pacific in WWII and said the Jap planes sounded like washing machines!
Best of luck on the project and Happy Holidays!!!!

Here are a couple of pic's of my last one....This is the 108" version. There is no difference in the flying between to 2 versions. They are both big and easy to fly....

Do you think a Q150B or DA150 be too much for this aircraft? In the 118" Zero.

Built as per plans as the 118" prototype that I bought from Ty (I don't know the exact weight, but she wasn't heavy) this aircraft flies beautifully on a Quadra 75. With a Q 100 it would definitely haul tail !!! I know that I mentioned the RC Showcase/Moki 215 radial, but that was for a completely detailed 1:3 scale version. For a built per plans Zero I wouldn't go any larger than a Quadra 100 or similar. Ty would, in my opinion, be the authority on this subject...he's built more Meister Scale birds than anyone I know of!!!
