Yup, Jap kills. They were usually posted just under the left side of the canopy. The kill could be another plane, a ship, a train, or other ground vehicles/installation. Individual personnel were not listed.

Thanks for the input. I'm building a H9 Corsair and want to keep it WWII vintage. Some of the decals provided with the ARF show Korean War era and wanted to make sure that this particular set was not specifically for Korea.
DR. 1 -- This is my first warbird build. Thanks for the info on where this insignia would go on the canopy!

If I remember correctly of pictures from the book The First Team, covering the first six months of WWII in the Pacific Navy pilots had the sun with rays as kill marks.
