Default KMP ME 109 or CMPro P-40

Hello everyone. I am looking for some honest opinions/comparisons on these two planes; KMP ME109, CMPro P-40 (140 size). I have a almost new Saito 120 for power. The P-40 can be had for $245.00 shipped. The 109 is $499.00 but includes retracts. My rough figuring puts them close in price when you equip the P-40 with retracts. I love the looks of the P-40 (already has some weathering distress look) although the KMP looks a little ahead in quality. I would like some honest opinions from pilots who have flown either of these on how they fly. If I go ME-109 the stock gear has to work due to $$. I alreadyhave to many other planes and need to build this with the gear I have and funds from the sale of another plane. All help greatly appreciated.

I have the P40 and while it is stable and flies ok, I really didnt have any fun flying it. You might want to wait for the cmp 109 to come out, its supposed to be the much more sleek looking F model.

the retracts that come with the KMP 109 are a total joke. Mine dont hold air and the struts are a waste of time. So, dont look at the retracts as a plus.
I have a CMP Hellcat and the KMP 109 and honestly they dont really look like they were built too differently. Which is good because I like them both.

the KMP planes should come without retracts. I wasted a lot of time on them. The plane flies like a dream and lands great other than that.

Since I am always considering value and price, I would go with the CMP P-40 and the awsome CMP P-51D (Silver with yellow spinner) both 120 size models, and look on line for the retracts if I did not aready have any that would work. I have alot of hardware collected over the years.

So look at Raidentech or Nitroplanes for special discounts and save, or get 2 for less the price of one (after shipping and 109 spinner).

They do crash once in awhile, better to have a backup.

Just my 2 cents.........................

The 140 size 109F, should be around 80-82" wing span if its like the CMP At6. That would put a scale spinner backplate at around 6" diameter. Lets see if they do that, or shamefully taper the nose down like I have seen in the past. Hope not!!

Another thing to keep in mind is that the p-40 uses rotating landing gear.. There are not as many options for the gear, and without looking up the numbers the rotating gear tends to be higher priced...I think robart is coming out with a new set aimed at the 120+ sized hellcat/p-40/corsairs that are gaining popularity...

I could be wrong about some of this info, but thats the way it seemed to me as I searched for gear for my cmp hellcat.
It sure seems like you can buy some much beefier traditional retracts for the same money as the lighter rotating type.

hope this helps.

I have a cmp hellcat that I power with a RCV 120 swinging a 17 X 12 3 blader foirm Zinger. I looks and flies very well. I had to do some mods to fit the Century jet retracts but all worked out well.

I have seen some of the KMP models and have a Typhoon on order. Despite how good the CMP models are, the KMP are in a class all to themselves as far as ARFs go. If you want a very close scale outline and super high quality KMP is the way to go.

I doubt the ME-109F from CMP will be any where close to 80-82". Although its a 140 size, the plane as compared to others of the same scale is smaller. In real life, the P-51 has a 37 foot ws and the ME-109 has a 32.5in ws. Take into account the fact that CMP's 140 size P-40 has a wingspan of 74" and the 140 size p-51 has 71.5" wingspan. Its most likely, the ME-109F will be of similar wingspan size...71-74"
BTW...you compared the 140 size ME-109F to the 160 size AT-6. Big difference in size between 140 and 160. At least 245+mm of wingspan difference....thgtas a 6" or better difference.

Hope so , I prefer the smaller model since the prices are around $220.00. Thats what I paid for my CMP 140 P-51D and my CMP 160 size At6.

You really can't beat CMP for value.

I own the Kmp 109. I am a scale nut and chose the OS108 for power because I couldn't stand the cylinder head of a 4 stroke hangin out the bottom of the cowl. Plenty of power and vertical performance. The retracts that came with the plane can be used like I chose to. The problem is that they are 90 degree retracts. The necessary angle needed to widen the wheel base had to be modified by adding a tapered shim on top of the mounting block. Replace all the tubing that came with the system and use the tank and checkvalve from robart. The plane is a little squirrly on landing cause of them narrow gear but it is a phenomenal flying bird that is a beaut in the air.
