Default Meister P-47 to Top Gun or Bust!

Hey Ya'll,

I'm building a Meister Scale P-47 for my compatition project for Top Gun. This is the Fiberglass Fuse. version. Dino has asked me to build a step-by-step manual for Meister Scale as I'm building this airplane. Attached are a few pics to show where I am so far. My plan is to fly it by the end of Feb. and start the detail work. It will have a Q-100 for power, JR servos, moving cowel flaps, retractable landing light, scale cockpit, and moving inter cooler doors. I'll update with pictures as I go. I'm going to be modeling this after Glenn Eagleston. Some might remember, I had a Meister P-47 painted in the Eagleston scheme that I lost due to battery failure. I'll be putting a battery back up in this one!

Yeah, it is CJ gear, but thats what I had in the other one and they did not get damaged at all. Remember I'm only doing the test flight so the plane will fly in a nice "scale" color of primer!

Hey Ya'll,

I'm glad for the vote of confidence in me!!! LOL I'm not saying I'll hit it, but I'm sure as heck gonna try! Top Gun isn't that far off. Okay, tonight was "trim tab" night. I've cut out the rudder and elevator trim tabs and sanded them smooth. I'm going to put a little more balsa filler around a few edges and plan on glassing tomorrow. I've decided that the servos will go in this tail section under the tail wheel. This way there is not a long distance for the pushrods to travel. I'll be working on the intercooler doors tomorrow as well. I'm going to make these move and with the tail wheel off, this gives me great access to that stuff. I'm going to put the intercooler doors on a sliding rail to make them slide correctly. John Monoghan is helping me draw up the plans for that. Thanks Johny!! Here are a few pictures of the rudder/elevator with the trim tabs. After I glass and apply rivets and panel lines, I'll glue in "trim tab control rods/covers".

Thanks,
PJ

Hey Richard,

Yes I have some K&S Metal Centers and Midwest wood racks. I got lucky and found a hobby shop going out of business a few years ago. Lots of stuff, glue, wood, more wood, and some extra wood! Everything a man needs to build!

Here are some more picutres of installing the formers for the wing....

Hey PJ,
Good looking P-47 already. How does that fuse look? I am doing a thread in this forum on a Nosen P-47. I'm not going for all the details as you are - more of a stand off model. I will be using a Q-100 also. Will your Q-100 have electronic ignition or are you keeping the stock magnito? I am leaning towards the CH Jumpstart. Do you have a cockpit kit in mind or will you build your own?
Thanks
X3

Hey X3,

The fuse. looks great! No pin holes and it is straight. I've seen your thread and am following it. Looks great so far! I'm going with the standard Magnito Q-100. It works great and I've never had a problem with this engine. Its great to have the CH Jumpstart, but I would rather save the money. I've flown Q-100's for several years and NEVER had a problem. As far as the cockpit, Aero-Accessories out of Jersey makes the cockpit kit for the Meister P-47. I can give you their number if you like.

Here is where I am on this. I've put the servo trey in and glassed the elevators, rudder, and trim tabs. Next I will mount, panel, and connect the servos.

Looking good PJ. It's always fun to see all the different ways guys find to elevate their parts while the glass resin dries[sm=lol.gif][sm=lol.gif]. I've even laid them on top of a lamp shade when I ran out of objects. Best of luck to you!

PJ,
Looks good. I assume you are using pull-pull on the rudder. Can post some pics of your rudder horn setup. Still trying to figure out the best to do it on my P-39.
