Default Hoosier Dawn Patrol Pictures

The 2007 Hoosier Dawn Patrol is history, and what a great event. 30+ pilots, 60+ planes. Great weather (mostly), great flying, and great times! Probably flew my Bristol M1c more in three days than I have in nearly 3 years, and even re-flew the repaired SSWD1 for the first time in a year. THe AMA National Flying Site in Muncie, IN is a perfect venue!

Here are a few of my pics from the event.

Probably my favorite shot. 1/3 scale BUSA Nieuport 17 flown by Billy Thompson.

Dale Locander's 1/3 scale BUSA Fokker DVII

Joe Hanson's 1/3 scale Albatros DIII from Dave Johnson plans.

Good looking 1/4 scale Bristol Scout belonging to Paul ?

Billy Thompson's 1/3 scale Pup (BUSA)

David (Propnut) Gibson's Fokker E-III on floats (flew great off the grass/dirt).

More later....

1/3 scale dogfight! Dave Johnson's DVa has it out with Billy's Pup.

Art Shelton's 1/3 scale wing warping Fokker E-1.

Russ Kuhn's 1/4 Nieuport 17bis. Scratch-A-Plane plans. It's for sale if anyone is interested.

Yes, it was windy Friday for a bit.

DaveJohnson's 1/3 scale Dva battles that crosswind.

1/4 scale Nieuport of JD Concoby. Sadly lost Friday evening.

Also lost (Sunday) was Joe Hanson's 1/3 scale BUSA Pup.

That's all I have for now, more later.

If you were there, post some of yours too if you would please.

Wow! What a perfect three days! [sm=thumbup.gif]

I'm not a big WW1 fan but those are some great shots, thanks for sharing. The #4 pic of the Sopwith really stands out!

Okay a few more...

My Bristol M1c ( I get to see the real think up close up and in person in England next week!)

Kenny Watkin's (one of the Arkansas boys) near 1/3 scale E-III

Se5a (don't have the pilot info, sorry)

Stephen Hill-Harris's scratch built 1/4 scale Se5a (top notch!)

BUSA's new 1/4 scale Spad. Very sharp!

Another shot of the BUSA Spad. It flew great, Even when I had the sticks for a bit.

Saturday morning saw the "Review of the Threes" 1/3 scale mass flight. 6 of them up at one time. Just awesome!
DJ's Dva Albatros, Joe Hanson's DIII Albatros, Norm's Pup, Billly Thompson's Pup, Art Shelton's Eindecker, Dale Locander's DVII

Thank you very much for the compliment, but no, I'm not a professional photographer. I have been a shutter bug for about 30 years though, and have worked in the photo lab business for nearly as long. Good equipment helps to. I used my up-coming England trip as an excuse to get a good digital SLR and really nice telophoto lens earlier this year.

Just make sure those solder joints are good Happy! She was a good looking plane, and went before her time. But then don't most of them.

It was good to see you again! Did it feel good to be to get rid of the shoes once you crossed the Arkansas border?

Thanks Mike. Sorry, my social graces aren't that great.[sm=red_smile.gif] My son and I were only there for a couple of hours, including a visit to the museum. But I plan on being at the Dayton Dawn Patrol the bulk of the day Saturday. I'll look for you. (I'm assuming your going.)

I am pretty sure that I will not be able to make that. My wife works weekends while I watch the kids, so the HDP was a real treat for me as she took the weekend off so I could go.

It will probably take me a whole year with the amount of time I have to fix up the little SE5a and the Bristol. I am taking it you only saw the unsuccessful flight of the Bristol, not the successful one about 5 hours later ?

Tripp:

Landing wire broke and the lower wing panel separated at the fuse. Wing came floating down and rest of plane elsewhere. I think it will be fixed. Working with Billy on parts.
