Dayton Dawn Patrol Rendezvous 2007 Pics
#1

A better three days could not have been spent than on the grounds of the National Museum of the United States Air force last weekend. The weather was great, the flying was great, the people the best, and the full scale guys put on a good show too.
I wish that I did a better job of getting names and details from many of the fellas I flew with and photographed. But I'll do the best I can.

BUSA's 1/3 scale Nieuport 17 flown by Mark Enderby of BUSA. They are major sponsors of this event. As well as Glen Torrence.

Billy Thompson was at the controls of BUSA other bigy, the Fokker DVII. 1/3 scale too.

Dale Cavin came up from Florida with his 1/3 scale Pup

Steven Hill-Harri's 1/4 scale DH2 took Pilots Choice Glow.

Greg Emerick gets airborne in with his 1/4 scale Pup. He was taking care of the Fokker Scourge for us that day.

1/6 scale AZM Tripe on what turned out to be it's last flight (unfortunately).

Mike (lost the last name, sorry) says it repairable. Feerless Leader looks a bit peeved though.

Jim Suchy's fantastic Hannover takes wing. Took Best in Show!

Stan Durnal's Dynaflite Se5a looked and flew great.

1/3 scale DVII. Complete with a great sounding gun system using modified paintball gun (for sound only). I think they sold a few of those systems that weekend.

Art Shelton's 1/3 scale E-1. They way he flies it, you'd never know it uses wing warping.

Really nice looking 1/3 scale Se5a of Randy Smith.

Of course, you have to look right to fly right. That's Dale Cavin.

Dale also had a BUSA Eindecker.

It was a bit breezy at times.

But all was well with this 1/4 scale Nieuport 11

Greg Emerick's Fokker slayer again.

BUSA's sharp looking 1/4 scale Spad 13. Nice flier too.

1/4 scale DVII

Sir Percy (of Hoosier Dawn Patrol fame) flew his DVIII.

Taube

1/4 scale Tripe

Nicely done Taube of Eric Williams. Eric also had a nearly full scale Eindecker

Eric and his Eindecker.

One of my favorites. This Nieuport 11 of Bob Curry (kit bashed from a BUSA Nie17) was sharp!

Nice!

The only rotary engine running that weekend was on this 1/3 scale Morane. Just awesome!

1/3 scale Pup

One more time.

Balsa USA's new trailer.

Billy Thompson, Mark Edenbury and yours truly. The Nieuport pic with the sunset on the trailer was one of mine from the Hoosier Dawn Patrol a few weeks back.
Needless to say I was really pumped to see that.

That's all I have for now. How about some more from some of you others....

I can't decide if that pilot has just been shot, is aiming at a target, or had too much Schnapps or Cognac the night before! But he's looks great.
And the Moraine was beautiful. She looks like a fun plane to fly.

The builder of the Morane and it's LeRhone engine is Ray Williams and he has a website at http://modelrotaryflyer.tripod.com/ where there are videos of the engine and the plane in flight. Ray often flies with us at the Chenango RC Club in upstate NY and it's always interesting to hear about the work that goes into building an engine like that and seeing it fly. It always starts on the first flip too!
