Default H9 P-47D 150 With a Zenoah G38?

I've recently started my P-47 arf and I am putting in a Zenoah G 38 Gasser. Has anyone got any heads up info for me? I mounted the engine last nite and I will have to notch the engine box to fit the pitts muffler as it is right against the firewall!! Any info would be great regarding this specific engine package and engine box mods...Thanks in advance. I am asking this question for a specific engine mod.....I have read other posts untill my eyes wanted to fall out and still havn't run accross anyone posting the engine box mods.

Hi Shayne,

There is a huge thread here on this aircraft, why not have a read instead of asking people to post info for you that has already been posted elsewhere?[&:][&:][&:]

You will find lots of info and even pic's of the G-38 installation somewhere in the 105 pages!!!!!!!!!

Good Luck

Run an APC 18x8 or good carbon 18-19x8 and have fun. People are putting everything from 26cc to 62cc gas in em, in addition to many glow options, with good results.

Shayne,
Are you using the EFI engine? It is a lot easier starting engine and a lot less trouble. I have a ZDZ-40 in mine but the G-38 will be plenty of power. Like Chad says, a good 18x8 or 19x8 will do the job.

I'm running a stock CDI system rather than EI. I have a nice starter and I'm not too worried about the starting issues that I know can be such a pain without a good starter. I personally actually like the stock CDI on the zenoahs.....I have some with and some without. I kinda like not worrying about the Ignition battery and I've also had a EI box fail in flight and nearly lost a very loved bird once. With the helpful prop info I think I will start with a 18-8 and see where it unloads....I do want this bird to fly as fast as it can with the 38cc engine so possibly a 18x10? as well.

Yeah jeff....Young blood replica....Its a 1997 , Just put it up for sale this week. The other is a 2004 Cheyanne replica with 1000 HP. Built for alki but I put gas in it for recreational use at the Colorado river. My shoe is set up shallow and starts loosing water at 97-98 mph....not fun when she loosens up at those speeds.

I have a friend of mine helping me with the assembly and he has been working on the engine box. It is turning out fantastic. I can't wait to get her in the air. We are having a one 8th air force scale event soon and I'm looking forward to showing off some flights!!!

jim youngblood lives about ten minutes from me, damn shame the talent he has building boats and he doesn't do it any more. he started on a redesigned 20 footer abot ten tears ago all is built is the deck mould. we just can't get him motivated.
this is my t-1, white boat. stock 200 mercury powerhead 102mph in the quater, runs around 12.15 ish. its a thrill considering its a 93 octane motor!

All Done, The maiden went well with the exception of a engine vibration that I need to have fixed.....The bird was a true joy to fly. I had my good buddy paul fly it for the first few flights as he's a much better stick than myself and I took video of its first flights. It flies AWESOME. I'm very happy with this bird. Not exactly a rocket ship with the G38 but not exactly slow either. A very good combo in my opinion though.
I added a very slight down elevator with the flaps as it wanted to climb a bit when the flaps were down but just a slight bit. The factory CG seemed just right. The jug makes very nice slow rolls! We changed the rudder wire a bit and added a second wire from the tail wheel to the rudder and removed some bracing in the tail as it was just too much in a bind from factory.
