Mark, I would love to see some pictures of your friends P-47 if you can take some and post them.. Your going to like your Spit for sure. Evan does good work and his muffler is an excellent solution to a problem if you are going to use the Rear Intake gas engines. Regards BobH.

P-47
Bob, I have not seen his thunderbolt in person yet. He has sent me pictures via digital camera. He should have it ready to fly at the field in a few weeks. I will definatley take picutes. If you e-mail him, he may send some pictures. I do not have them anymore. His name is Albert and his e-mail in [email protected] or .com, I don't recall which. Good luck.

Well I worked on the horizontal stab first and have it almost done. It builds just lie a Platt kit. I did a more scale hinge line and added some 1/64 ply to simulate the metal leading edge of the elevator. Although the outlines are scale on this kit it is up to you to add any scale details. The ailerons are not scale and I am going to redesihn them to the scale freize ailerons. Here is a pic of the stab. Don

Oh Don...you are making me look bad. I thought of adding 1/64 ply for that added detail, but was just too lazy to do it. Nice job. Now, did you follow the plans and make the elevator center core sheet out of 1/16 balsa and add all those lightening holes? If you did, i am curious as to what you think. I thought it would be too flimsy. I thought of going to 1/8 lite ply core and adding the holes, but I opted for 1/16 balsa and left the holes out. I would like to get you insight.

Jeff, The core sheet is 3/32 balsa and with all of the ribs etc. in place it seems rigid enough. What hinges did you use? I'm using Robart and will probably put some brass tube extensions on the stab side. Did you run your engine yet? I'm curious what you think of it as you run so many large engines. Don

Don...I used the Robart hinge pins as well. Did not need the brass tubes to lengthen, but certainly would not hurt. I plan on running the engine for the first time this Saturday. If all goes well, i will then bring the plane home and balance and hope to fly next Tuesday. I'll let you know how it all goes. Of course, I will have to take a bunch of pica as well. A also changed the ailerons a little. I didn;t use the torque rod set-up Clark shows.

A little off the subject but need to know...
Sorry to throw the subject off but I figured those involved in this series of post would get me the best/quickest answers..
I've saved my pennies and dimes and am now able/willing to purchase a full blown 1/4 scale Clark kit....
I originally wanted to get the Hurricane but am now questioning whether the Spit would be a better choice....
I'd appreciate any and all input on this subject, positives, negatives, etc...as the dollar amount is not insignificant..
Thanks in advance....

Well had a long week but got the rudder about done and started fitting the bulkheads. The bulkheads are about 3/16 oversize and take some fiddling to get them to fit. Next up is to make up the control system and I think I will come up with a tailwheel lock. Don

Here is a shot of one of the main gear. It has two cylinders and one has a spring in it for failsafe. Even though it has the spring it still has a 5-6sec transit time up or down. Nice machining and scale wheel hubs with backing plate that looks like a brake so I just have to add the brake line. Don

No It has two to handle enough volume of air to pull up all that mass without having a long cylinder. They really work nice on the bench and you only have one air hose on the up cylinder to hook up so it eliminates a bunch of hose connections. Don

retracts
Ok Cool. Im stuck on dual line retracts lets me adjust them easier I am not big on springs but yours sounds nice with the slow travel. When I install mine in the Hurri I will use a reducer in one of the lines so I get that scale one side goes up and comes down before the other

Clark has that all figured out and they come from him already adjusted so you don't have to do anything. One of mine is slightly faster than the other and is very scalelike. Also eliminates four air connections and only uses half the air per cycle than the others.

I also took my scale three view over to my friends print shop and he blew it up to the size of the model. I wanted to get the aileron detail down right and what better way than to go full size on the three view. One thing I found out is that the wing outline is exactly the same as the three view. Do you think the scale judges would go for a 9 foot x 9 foot three veiw? Anyway that will sure make it easy to do the panel lines and scale details. Don

Nice fit from axle to wheel. does it have brakes too?
thats why i like using corel and scanning all my plans I can make the adjustments and have them for next time. it lets me overlay everything on top of each other to check it all out.
