dont use those snap on ball links they will fail!! use 4-40 ball links with a washer on top as a safty stop from coming off, these small details are very important

I emailed Darrell three weeks ago simply to remind him that I needed a set of gear for my plane. He did respond stating that a few changes were needed before the gear was ready. I have not heard from him since.

Since there has been some discussion regarding the weight of the 1/4 scale Corsair, I decided to put my plane on the scale today. The weight of the plane minus the electronics, engine, main retracts, ailerons and flaps, was 24lbs. I believe my plane can be completed with a flying weight under 55 lbs.

Hi barry

Been lurking about your thread and by the pic I see you have started to use the snap on ball links that is a NO NO for you size bird you should be using min 2/56 and best would be 4/40 captive links with washers over both sides ov the ball, I would not use any snap on type mabe the chock at the engine but that would be it

I don't have a huge problem on the ball link on the throttle, although I would recommend the bolt on type... What I see that I would change is the brass 2-56 coupler soldered on the end. I have had these break several times from vibration. The rod will start to bounce since it is unsupported. The brass being softer than the steel rod it will start to bend right at the point where the threads stop at the shank.

Hey Rack...

Are you an AMA inspector?

I would be interested to see the list of check points for aircraft from an AMA perspective for consideration during building.

Cheers

Questions,

I also am concerned about the snap on ball links. I don't know exactly which ball links you guys are talking about so could you post a picture or give me the part # for Tower Hobbies so I can get them. What do you suggest I use to not have to solder a brass fitting on at least one end of the 4-40 threaded rod. I guess I could use two 12" threaded rods and cut them to length leaving 1" extra for overlap on each side and then wrap copper wire around them and solder them together so there are threads on both ends of the rod for the links. I've done this before but I never thought it would be a problem with the twin. I was told by Bobby at Cactus Aviation where I bought the engine that it is a very smooth running engine with almost no vibration. But who can you really believe is right. Show me your ball links and then show me how you set them up. It's hard to picture what your saying. I haven't ever used that type before. Sorry for sounding stupid but I just haven't needed them with the smaller planes.

Thanks for the help,

Gibbs

PS. Are these the ones your talking about? I still don't see any washer with them.

if you realy nead to ask about the basic set ups you nead to stay with a top flight giant scale corsair nothing biger than that, its this kind of loose constructin that will cost all of us in the end. i carry a million dollar umbrella policy on my aircraft and build and fly them to a very high standard there is a ton of liability, when done right they are very safe, in the hands of an amature there dangerous you have to know what you are doing

rack,
ive had enough of your attitude. you have all the answers.your always belittling people and instead of being agood stuard of the hobby and the ama . you are pushing people away from giant scale airplanes. much of what you say makes sense but you never back it up pics. you say you are an inspector for ama and you carry large policies on your aircraft. lets see pics of your work and videos of your flying. not all ofus know you personally if you are all what you say you are then we could all benifit from your experience.just because someone has never built a 55lb or higher plane plane before dosent meen they shouldnt and they wont get the proper training and inspection before they fly it or test it. last i heard the ama and rcu for that matter is to promote and to learn
new skills and to help each other. where are your post of builds or tips so that we can benifit no matter what level were at.show me dont tell me!

Barry

Thay are what we were talking about ,you have to add the washers, and don't forget to use jam nuts on all threaded rod end points.

Just a suggestion on anything that you need a nut use a stop nut and never use them more than once, one more thing steel a bottle of the reddest nail polish from you wife or?? and when you install a bolt, screw put a dab across the attach seame, this will let you know if anything is coming loose as you inspect your bird.

Good luck

Thanks Bobs,

Do the washers come with the ball links or do I need to get them from ACE hardware? I know the lock nuts don't come with them. I appreciate the positive feedback from you.

RACK,

IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING BETTER TO DO THAN BRAG AND BELITTLE PEOPLE ON MY THREAD INCLUDING MYSELF THEN STAY OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YOUR GETTING ON MY NERVES. Other people have e-mailed me and called me from this thread since I posted my phone number and said they were getting really sick of your big head. If you are an inspector for the AMA then give me an inspectors number that they assign and also the phone number to call to back up your B.......t story. Plus I know for a fact that you do no more than brag and exagerate who you are. If you can figure that one out let me know or STAY OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!

To all Moderators: Please do something about this ASAP PLEASE,

Barry

I'm waiting for some plywood ribs for the wing tip panels and then I can build them. In the meantime I got my prop adapter that Carl at Solo props had to specially make for the 3W 200cc engine. His biggest before was a 157cc. Anyway I don't care about discussing anything further with you rack so please just keep all your braging to yourself. I also sent my 3 blade hub in to exchange for a 4 blade hub to make the plane true to scale. He asked me to send in my thre blades and he would make 4 new ones since he made mine he made improvements on the blades to reduce flexing.
