Falcon,

I do fly. I only live about 5 miles from our field and get enough flying in when I'm in the mood. I am really kinda bored with flying the planes I have and am needing a Warbird to get my blood running again. Plus I enjoy building more than flying anyway. I am trying to meet a deadline with this Corsair and Sopwith Pup so I can attend Top Gun next year. If I do'n't stay at it about 6 hours everyday I'll never have a chance of making it. I don't think the Corsair will make it anyway but maybe the Pup. I decided to make my oil coolers today since it would be to late to do it after the wing is sheeted. It was tedious with all the thin plywood and elmers glue.

Rack Attack,

Your oil coolers are no where near scale. Don't bother me with your nonsense anymore. I have decided to ignore you because I think you are full of criticism. The real Corsair had the oil coolers that went on an angle toward the TE of the wing with the carb inlet even with the LE. I'm following my plans with some of my own modifications and if Don drew it this way then thats good enough for me. Your ARF is just that an ARF. Plus there is no way in this world that you built that Waco in 2 weeks. Must be nice to step up to a ARTC.[:'(]

Falcon,

I fly in the early afternoon and never on weekends. If I come to the field and anyone is there I turn around and go home. I don't care what people think but I still don't know what business it is of yours if I fly as much as an ARF pilot. Keep that Twist flying. Must be fun to fly the same type plane all the time. By the way what is your name and how long have you been flying? You know mine but you hide behind your user name.

Barry/Alias: Corsair Kidd who dosen't give a crap.[:'(]

well actually, a real builder could do it in 2 weeks, and Vern did just that without any complaints that I could see.
BTW Barry, when did you get your invite to Top gun?

Barry, if you need some really good pics of exactly how the oil coolers on the Corsair are fabricated and installed follow the link below. Keep at it, I think your oil coolers will be fine.

Rack, no offense, but the oil coolers you posted pictures of are "sport scale" at best.

I don't care what you or Burly say. I'll build my plane the way I want to. Nobody invited you on this thread so if all you have to do is show me things that aren't related to the Corsair stay off. As I recall the Waco wasn't a model of a Corsair. And burley I'm sick of you telling me how smart rack is. I don't CARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![:@] Go find someone else to pester. I don't need an invite smart A.. to be a spectator as far as I know.

sorry Barry, I guess I miss-understood your posting in post #463 about
your other entry into Top Gun, and various other posts about the Pup
and Corsair going to Top Gun in 09, or 2010

if you ,dont want costructive critisim then dont publish what you are doing i do it more for the other people trying to build the same airplane that may think what you are doing is right and dont know better as i explained to you before the secret to building a good flying long lived warbird is the weight ,youve gotten yourself behind the curve already, best thing you can do is to build another fuse proprerly fit sheeting not planked !!!that is the dumbest thing iv seen done on a giant style plane other than the snap on ball links that you were going to use this is not your backyard flyer its a serious piece of hardware that when constructed poorley or flown with an inadequate skill level could could harm or kill spectators, id sugest you build and fly this rock out of the public eye

I am still working on my oil coolers and made a cutout in the LE that is still considerably to samll but I want room for sanding the round edges. The bottom block of balsa for the exit air will be applied after the center section is covered with balsa. I will sheet the easy parts and plank the tight curves as per Don's instructions.

Chad,

I just had a chance to look at your pictures of the oil coolers. I will need to add the louvers that are in front of mine but that is about it. I am going to try to find a thin walled brass or aluminum tube to make the carb intakes and then use fish netting to make the grill for it. The cross piece on the intake will be a piece of aluminum about 1/8" wide. Thanks for the pictures. Those are the best ones I've seen of the coolers so far. They look a lot like mine except there are only six louvers on the real Corsair and mine has eight.[X(]

I'm still working on my oil coolers and carb intakes. I could't find any pipe so I used some scrap left over from the Pup and cut out a circle in the thin aluminum. I made a groove for it to slide into so it was partialy hidden like Chads pictures. Then bought a fish net and glued it to the front of the circle. Then with another scrap made the crossbrace. I will make a side for the circle tomorrow so it will have depth and look real. But here it is so far.

John,

I appreciate some positive feedback once in awhile. I don't think your crazy. Your just someone like me that want's to build a plane without much help from a good set of plans. I sure love the fact that he doesn't give you but a front and a top view of the coolers. I'm kinda following his plans but adding my own ideas. Now I have to figure out how to make the carb intake look 3-D. I'm scratching my head over that one. I'll probablly use a block of balsa and carve the side that shows and leave the rest just flat. I'm not going to cut into the fron't spar brace except where he had it lasered out.
