June 28th will be one year for me also. And I'm also much busier than ever. I'm working on a H9 Spitfire as well as 3 full size Yak-3's. And I'm going flying Friday with my CMP Hellcat. Life is good!!!!

Fred,
One word of warning, my friend. Once you retire you will have removed any and all excuses for:
1) Not working on your next project
2) Not having anything to fly
3) Not showing up at the field
4) Not flying each weekend
In fact, you will be expected to show up to fly on weekdays.
No amount of excuses will suffice unless, of course, you're talking to another retiree. Those guys know that free time magically disappears upon retirement. This fact cannot be proven to those who continue to work so don't even attempt to explain.
Personally, I have another ten years ahead of me and, though I hate to wish my life away, I am so looking forward to the day I can remove myself from the daily grind. How good it would be to go fly anytime the mood strikes!
Congratulations, Fred! You've earned some time off. Go for it and enjoy!

RE: Retiring this year in June/ More Warbird building
Hi Fred,
I retired 12/31 after 40 years in the ministry. everything they say about retirement is true (how can I be four months behind in my projects already?). The biggest and greatest difference for me is that I am now in charge of my schedule. That constant pressure to hurry up with this so I can get to that is gone ---pretty darn close to heaven(-:
All the birds in my fleet are ready to fly as soon as the weather opens up. Oops that's not quite true; my Royal C47 needs the wing rebuilt, but that's my first project in the new home home I will own after St. Paddy's Day.
Welcome aboard!,
Walt

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the encouragement. I guess retirement is just a matter of semantics. I'm just changing vocations.LOL I paint houses and do home improvements also, plus my wife already has a long list of things to do around the house. I hope to do more flying and building in the coming years.
Thanks,
Fred

Hi Walt,
What Ministry were you associated with? I'm very active in my church. Ocean State Baptist Church, where I'm a trustee and adult sunday school teacher with my wife.
Jeff, it's always good to hear from you. I may consider building for some for others. but I know how that can really ruin a hobby. LOL
Later,
Fred

I retired from the United Church of Christ out of the Congregational side of the merger.
I have built a number of planes for others. First of all be sure your own fleet is ready to go --- there's nothing more frustrating than having made a commitment that keeps you from flying, allow more time than you think you'll need, agree on a firm price and conditions in advance and in writing (even if it's your best friend). Finally, keep in mind what you're going to do with the money (my last build - a Royal P-38 -- bought the MegaMax for my 1/4 scale Cobra).

Being retired is a "gift" from God. I have been retired for two years now and I certainly do love being retired. As for extra time to work on models, well just be aware that the "honey do" list grows exponentially with the amount of free time you 'think' you have!
