Default p 51 Mustang Bud Nosen Kit

Will a reduction unit from Byron P51 work in a Bud Nosen 102" Mustang?

Sorry, but in my opinion it will not work unless you keep the weight down to around 25-28 pounds. Mine with retracts, Robarts, and a G-62 came out at 38 pounds. Now I did not build it as reccommended by Nosen. I put alot more reinforcement in the wing sadle area and the wing where the retracts go. Now my friend had one that flew on a G38 with spring air type retracts and weighed 24 pounds. No interrior detail and no surface detail. Looked good at 50 ft. Flew well but was under powered. He later installed a G62 and it came alive. The Nosen Mustang while not being very scale is a great flying sport scale model of the P-51.

Hey Gary
Plane looks good. I am building one also and have installed 154 Robarts in it with a large air tank. The problem I have is I get one retraction cycle starting at 100#. I am using dubro wheels which weigh 11oz each. What has been your experience

I use a Q 100 in mine. Way powerful and fast. It's heavy as it's all glassed, but lands like a kitten. Fun sport scale 51

Try a search for an "updated nosen P 51 plan". Someone made some tweaks to the plans to make the fuse a bit more scale.. and shows retract installation. Also has a 3 pc wing.

Have fun !

SJ, I had the same problem with the Robart gear not being able to raise the new aluminum wheels also . I talked to them about my problem and they sent me larger air cylinders that helped out quite abit. Also using the UPS control valve does slow the Robarts down with heavy wheels. On the other hand Sierra gear does not have that problem. I used their gear on my Fiberclassics P-51 and have had no problems. Sierra installs cylinders large enough that you only need about 80 pounds of air pressure to start out with. I also use two of the large air tanks in parrellel to add more capacity. I also like Sierra's air lines also. He has them in many colors and they are more flexable and go over the "Ts" and cylinder nipples easier. My Mustang also incorporated a three piece wing that I designed with the help of Jim Martin. We used the same wing attachment that Byron used. Two aluminum spars in each wing panel that fit into aluminum channels in the center section on each side and was held in place with allen set screws from the bottom of the wing.
hope this helps.
Gary
Hope to see some of you at Toledo. I will be there on Friday.
