Unfortunately the Lavochkin LA 9 was not flying on the weekend but was on static display. The cowl sides were removed which provided an opportunity for some great shots of the guns and general scale details.

RE: Warbirds Over Wanaka
some great shots you have showen. i went over to the show 2 years ago and had a great time. one of my mates was there this year who i went with last trip and said he was not very impressed this time over as alot of aircraft that had been advised would be there were not :eg spitfires. he also advised that the gold pass area was over packed out and seemed to be more for making money over the display of these vintage aircraft. i think sir tim wallis who had started the show has steped back now and it is being run by the local council ? i dont know what you thought , but if its the same as my mate has advised me they will learn from this show and get it right for the next as i would love to go back for a show again

Yes, it was very busy and having gold passes too I did find it hard to get a seat in the stand from time to time. There was no spitfire at the display this time as it had been sold to the Temora Air Museum. There was supposed to be one of the dual seat Spits on display but it was pulled at the last minute.
I must admit I found the overall flying and displays to be far better than the last show I went to in 2004. Maybe they are improving over age. One thing I have to say is the aircraft come down quite low and you really get a close look at them as they pass down the strip (oops, runway). Some passes were as low as 100 feet (30 to 40 meters). Best were the Corsair and the Polykarpov I16 with their great sounding radial engines.
Hope I didn't cause too much anxiety describing the pics as 'scale'.
Hopefully they will come in handy with someones next 'scale' build.

RE: Warbirds Over Wanaka
thanks for your feed back on what you thought of the show. the lavochkin la9 was flown at the 2006 show and i think was one of the most impressive aircraft there i loved the sound of it (raw power) sounds like you like radials. the corsair did put on a great display and being in the gold area as it folded up the wings close up was really good as your image shows (better when you are beside it with that big motor thumping away). i didnt want to sound that i was bagging the show but just passing on what my mate had thought of the show keep the images coming. thanks greg

Only have one more of the Stang you mentioned. Have about 300 pics (gotta love those digital cameras) to go through. I have included some pics of the 3/4 scale Mustang which looked and flew great. I read the details on this one and in New Zealand you only need a Microlite licence to fly it. No Private Pilot licence needed!!
Anyway, some more miscelaneous pics included. Check out the one of the Corsair and the P 40. Nice and fast and low.

hi flapper that 3/4 mustang does put the hair up on the back of you neck with its diving pass at speed, the v 12 motor it is running is made in the states by some hi/tec engine builder that makes them for these kevlar built airframe p51 The shots of the harvard are great did they have the team of them flying in formation? when i was alot! younger i lived in nz around the christchurch area where they had the harvards stationed at wigram airbase, so i used to spend alot of time watching them doing there flying/training and saw the last formation fly over of christchurch before they where taken out of service around 1974 with about 30 odd aircraft i think ? i can remember thinking at the time the sight of this would have been something like in ww11.

GT,
The Harvards put on a good display and I think there were 6 all up. They were called 'The Roaring Forties' and did some great formation flying. Some pics below.

I believe it can be set up and airworthy for around $120k US. Would that be right? Time for a garage sale........................ It would make for one giant scale rc warbird.
