RE: Warbrds over Delaware
Do you know if the club has considered waiving the pilot fees for pilots driving out of state or long mileage to encourage participation due to the fuel cost? I recall in 2003 there were no pilot fees. Just a thought. We are only driving 1200 miles each way.

H i , the park gets all the money (state park) but for 25.00 you get to come to the best event of its kind, for that price you get a lot, the price of fuel will hurt us this year. what you get is a BBQ sat night, last year we had five thousand$ worth of give aways,we drop about 10 thousand every year we must sell a lot of tees and pit pass and 50/50s to break even, the scouts sell food they keep all that money, we get no money from vendors (food or hobby) the park keeps 90% of it, hope you come we will try to make it worth the trip. see you soon Pete

Pete,
As a Contest Director myself, I've always capped my pilot fees @ $5.00; after all, it's pilot participation that ultimately draws the spectators and determines event growth. More spectators, increased sales of food, beverages, raffle tickets, spectator entry/parking fees, etc. We both know the profit margin with concessions is astronomical. Pilot fees have minimal impact on event revenue.
Obviously your event is enormous in Scope, requiring a tremendous amount of time and effort by dozens of volunteers. I can certainly understand the club's expenditures, in terms of monetary and resource allocation; however, your explanation on the newly-enacted pilot fees is somewhat vague. Historically, pilot fees were waived at WOD. So, the Park Commission increased their usage fee? Bar-B-Que dinner?

RE: Warbrds over Delaware
Now back to the original thread... roll call.
Bringing up some giant-scale warbirds including a Ziroli Dauntless, Stuka, Nieuport 28, Fokker DRI, Airworld FW-190, etc.
We plan to roll-in Thursday morning. Since we're pre-registered, we hope to get some flights in early. Also anxious to try my air-raid siren (w/ club authorization) for those Stuka bomb drops. It's an authentic W.W.II unit (110vac driven, not manual) previously-mounted in a factory that manufactured hardware during W.W.II.

RE: Warbrds over Delaware
Hello everyone. Here are some important items for Warbirds Over Delaware pilots:
1. We are getting a lot of pre-registrations that register multiple times. Confirmation emails are sent out, usually within 24 hours. If you have not received your confirmation please check your SPAM folder. AOL users especially.
2. It was previously stated that we would mail out Parking Permits to pre-registered pilots to eliminate any confusion with the State Park. However, we have another solution. Parking permits will not be mailed out. WOD event staff (along with Park Rangers) will be out at the entrance on Friday and Saturday to assist pilots with entrance to the field. Pre-registered pilots will be permitted to proceed to the parking areas. Pilots who aren't pre-registered will be required to pay the landing fee upon entrance to the field. A special card will be provided to show proof of payment to the registration desk.
On Saturday, spectators and volunteers are required to park at the remote parking site and they will be bussed into the Flying Field. Buses run from 8:30AM until 4:30PM. Spectator information can be found at: http://www.delawarerc.org/wod_spectator.htm
Only event pilots, support staff (designated by event pilot during registration), and handicap permit vehicles will be permitted to park at the Flying Site on Saturday.
3. Pre-registration will be closed on Monday June 30th to allow processing of the paperwork. Pilots who wish to register after this date will be required to register at the event. Pre-registration is highly recommended to ease the congestion at the registration desks and Park entrance. All paperwork will be automatically filled out and waiting for pre-registered pilots at the registration desk.
4. Special announcements will be posted here on RCU, as well as the Warbirds Over Delaware Yahoo eGroup. You can subscribe to the eGroup at: http://www.delawarerc.org/warbirds.htm
Please let us know if you have any comments or questions.
Thanks,
Brian
