Default Help With A Nosen P-51 Mustang

I just got a Bud Nosen P-51 Mustang kit and need some advice. I am looking for a good engine to power this beast with. This is my first giant scale gasser so I don't know what model engines or sizes are the best for this plane. I want the engine not to be running at full throttle all the time, and I want something that will have plenty of power in reserve. What size prop and spinner so I use I know it depends on the engine size of course. I was also looking at putting a set of retracts on this any ideas for what kind to use, and what size wheels to put on it. The next thing is servos I want to use Futaba brand any ideas on which ones work the best for what I am going to use them for. Thanks for all your help. Brian

Default Help With A Nosen P-51 Mustang

I have seen this plane fly fine on a G-62...It would have plenty of power with a Q-75 with a 24x10 prop. I fly a 1/4 scale Zero at just over 1/2 throttle with this set up......

I recommend a Q-100 with a 22x16 prop and she will run like the wind.

Default Nosen P-51 Travel

Hey fellas flying this plane. I have one ready to fly, would like to know if the CG on plan is good, and what control surface travel youare using. Mine weighs 27.5 lbs, with First place 52cc gaser, 22X8 prop, Dave Plat pneumatics. Original builder said he flew with 19cc gaser, but not enough power. Appreciate any assistance.

Default Nosen P-51

Brian and Krish, I have to go along with Ty. A Quadra 75 is perfect for this airplane! I've had 2 and both had Q-75's. Of course more power wouldn't hurt, but a 75 will make this airplane do just about anything you would want it to do. The CG on my plans was right on. Oh yeh, both of mine had Likes electric retracts also!
Happy flying,
Rob Bailey / Pickupsticks

The 75 or the 100 will fly it, I would personally go with the Q100. The key to the kit is lots o sand paper.

So Chook you say a 100cc engine will really get this plane to do whatever you want it to do. I haven't started building mine yet, after pulling it out of the box and seeing all the work that needs to be done to it. It definently will take a long time to build it and probably about a box of sandpaper.

Thanks fellas,

I have a G62, and the FP 52 is as powerful, how much does your planes weigh to need such power? Mine is 27.5 lbs. I would really like some help with the amount of travel before I fly it. Tks.
