Paul - I thought about attending and displaying the Avenger at that event but, Shirley and I will be in Coraopolis, Pa. that Saturday for my Mom's Birthday celebration. Thanks for the offer. Chic

Much more important Chic! Enjoy time with Mom. :-)

The Avenger really looks fantastic by the way. You should be very proud. Did you go to WoD? I was there on Friday but sadly did not see your Avenger. :-(

Sorry Paul, stuff continues to happen - neighbors dryer fire and the husband away on business, had to be there for his wife/family. Looking for a scale event in the area around late August/September/October if I don't bad finger the maiden and/or practice flights before hand. Chic

The FAA sent an administrator and a team of FAA personel out to our club field (PGRC, Bowie, Maryland) from Washington, D.C. to see, understand, and put their hands (buddy boxes) on our hobby. They wanted to see most aspects of our hobby from gliders, scale models, turbine jets, sport, trainers, etc.. The club asked me to bring the Avenger out for show and tell. It was fun watching those folks take selfies and ask questions about the Avenger. However, the temps are just toooooo HOT. Engine run up and maiden soon, I promise.

You "GUYS" have always been there. Guys - I have been truly blessed with all of your advice and recommendations. Balancing, weight, and final adjustments hopefully this week. Thanks Noah. Chic

Beautiful! I like the color scheme as it is so different than the normal blue. If you have it balanced correctly it should be a big *****cat to fly. The real one was with fairly light elevators and heavy ailerons. The rudder was very effective also but it did have a pretty large throw as i remember. It was pretty light at lower speeds and heavy over 150kts, . Please don't make the mistake of setting it up with large control throws. That elevator is huge and doesn't need much. I've seen a lot of crashes just because they are overly sensitive. These are not 3D planes. Can't wait to see it fly.

Pittsdriver - Great advice and recommendations on throws and control sensitivity. This Avenger is modeled and painted after a full scale version. Luv the paint scheme also. It is on other American Lend Lease airframes to Britain. B-17, B-24, etc. Thanks. Chic

I am concerned about the amount of material removed from the rear gear block.
Everyone,

Hope you can help me with a question about the landing gear on the Kellogg Avenger. I read through majority of the site and scanned the pictures. Do I understand it correctly that in order to install the main landing gear that you need to route a path through the gear blocks for the rodaxle? I hope you don't mind but I reposted some pictures form your builds below to clarify what I am looking for.

Mike,
Looks all right to me, been a few years since we built ours. Hook up the air pump and see how it transitions

I did but one thing I noticed was the metal landing gear mounting plate gave the integrity back to the hardwood beam. I would not be alarmed with the cut away. Chic

Chic is correct.... the gear mount flanges themselves will strengthen those spans (left and right installations).

Chic, what is your Avenger's status?!

Noah - Noah - Noah: Happy to say we are finally ready to weight her, obtain a good CG, and run the engine in the back yard. Believe it or not, having trouble getting this beast out the shop door. Having a double set of doors put on the shop this week to help get her outside. Soon Lil Brother, soon. Chic

Currently replacing the tygon fuel lines. Were in there so long they began to crack/leak. With winter/snow/30's temp - it probably won't be till Spring before I get any action. Ask the guys, they will tell you, I'm just very slow. Chic
