I finally had the chance to fly mine on Wednesday. (After chasing multiple retract leaks for weeks) I've got a Fox 4.2 in mine... 24x10 prop and she flew absolutely wonderful. She tracked straight and after hitting about 3/4 throttle she lifted all by herself. A G62 would be fine in my opinion. A da85 would be out of the scale realm as far as speed at full throttle. (My opinion of course- but I'm all for that scale look in the air) I am however going to get a DA85 for the P-40 that's on my bench now. I got the nifty TBM exhaust to avoid cutting the cowl to pieces. I'll just have to practice throttle management- darn.

Would someone measure from the leading edge of the center section to the tip of the rudder and the height of the rudder from the tail wheel?

How does the g-62 work vs the DA 85?

I am trying to see if the plane will fit in my MDX.

Thanks
center section to the tip of the rudder = 61''
height of the rudder from the tail wheel = 19''

Here is how mine fit in my Nissan X-trail. I think it ''should'' fit in your MDX as it is a bigger vehicule from the outside.

Hey guys, not sure of the geometry but has anyone considered just running springs from the rudder tiller to the tailwheel tiller to steer the tailwheel? Could this work?

It needs the wheel to have control. Just run pull pull cables to the back through some nylon tube. run these off the rudder servo no extra weight.

Jim, I don't think you understand... I'm talking about running springs from the control arms of the rudder tiller to the control arms of the tailwheel. Then the rudder servos steers the tailwheel too. I've done and seen this on other planes, but I'm not sure I've ever seen this on a plane with a retract. In any case, I'll have TBM retracts for my Ultra-R/C Zero on Wednesday, and I'll check for myself, but I just wondered if anyone else had considered it.

Received mine a few weeks ago and man this is one more beautiful bird. I love the way all your air system stays right there in the Mid section. From what I see in the maiden video's it's not as hard to land as a full blown warbird!! I'm gonna love this thing. Anyone else flying one please put out some videos.

As stated in my post 268 .... I did installed springs on tail wheel. here is pictures.

If using a Hitec hs65mg (burned two of them) or one HD-2213 (stripped the gears on second landing) as recommended by tbm you will only have problems. Put springs as i did on a dual servo arm or try to link it to the rudder arm. Or use pushrod linked to the rudder servo.

Yeah, it work real fine. But i did it only for convenience as the airplane is still very controlable without wheel control, the rudder is suffisant for most of ground handing but tight slow turn. This is only why i added control to the wheel.

Dani, Way to go. Thats the way we rig all our tail wheels at my field. As long as they don't get in the way on the retract cycle, all will be fine. Post some Vids when you fly yours!!

Hey guys, I'm building the Ultra R/C version of this kit, and it comes without the rudder tiller arm. This part is clearly visible in photo #4 of Jim's posting #23 in this thread. Does this part come in the TBM kit, and do you know if it might be available separately, or if there is a suitable replacement from another source? I've been looking tonight and come up empty.

RickVB, i broke the one in TBM kit and as you, I did not find replacement. I had to machine my own using a lathe.
Go see my post # 197 for a picture.

See [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=9069325]my post[/link] in the Ultra R/C Zero thread for a possible replacement. I have ordered this on advice of Mac Hodges, and I will report as to whether this works for me. By the way, is your rudder wire 3.2mm the way mine is?

By the way, you can go to [link=http://www.airborne-models.com/html/ShoppingOnLine.asp]Airborne Models[/link], the place I bought mine, type the part number into the accessories search to find it.

Do you know if a RCS Radial will fit ??

I am thinking something between the RCS 150 or RCS 215 .. the dimensions are about 11.7" Diameter - 7.9" from backplate to prop hub

Seems like even the 150 would be way too much angine for this plane, even if it fits...

Know of any Radial that would fit and be just right for this aircraft?? I have seen a Zero with a Saito Radial in it but told that the Saito Radial will not fit the TBM Zero

Saito Radial 5 + Glow5 from MICROSENS.at in Zero cmpro 50

Hi. Is the model easy to go upside down when taking off from grass field ?
Is the landing gear forwarded to avoid this problem ?
Thanks

I was wondering if someone could take some pictures of exactly how the horizontal stabs are attached. I kind of have an idea of what they are talking about, but I would like to see what some of you guys are doing. I thought about just gluing them on, but I want to be able to get to the elevator servos if need be. Also, how in the heck are you suppose to hook up the throttle servo to the Zenoah G-62? Mine is brand new and it has the throttle arm that does not go front to back, it goes more from a side to side motion. Any help you guys have or pictures of your G-62 set up would be great. I have not get started on my Zero yet because I want to try to figure out all the things that might sneak up on me before I start. Thanks in advance.

I have been told that even though the TBM 92" is bigger then the CMP 80" the saito 325 radial will not fit in TBM 92". How can a radial fit in a 80" plane but not a 92" plane??

Got a lot done today , The engine is mounted ,Throttle installed chock servo installed engine kill switch. The wing has the air tanks and valve and servos installed. All and all a good day.
Just a thought, could you just use the choke as an engine kill device?

Lever, Using the choke as a engine kill has been done but not a 100% deal on that. You can't go wrong with a Smart-Fly Opti kill switch.
