RE: Hangar 9 150 Size P-51
Just bought my H-9 1.50 P51.from Hobby town. The engine reccomended is the Zenoah 26cc ei, Has any one put this engine in?, is it gutsy enough? And hopefully with as little cutting on the cowl as possible. Any info will be appreciated, as Ive been out of this hobby over 25 yrs. C.ops

It'll fly the plane, but not very fast. The benchmark prop is a 16x8 according to Horizon. This plane kinda needs a larger prop then that. You'd be better off with a G38. It can spin an 18x10, but an 18x8 is probably more in the top rpm band

There is alot more info in this thread and its about the newer 80" H9 1.50 P-51 whereas this one started off on the original 77"
More ppl visit this other thread and there are a good many more examples of gas motor installations:

My Keleo muffler has now busted on my Hangar 9 150 Mustang Frankie for the third time, It is also the second muffler that I had received from him as the first one practically fragged itself off the motor leaving the primary header tube and a chunk of the muffler itself behind. Now this thing cant keep itself together once again. However, this time, the vibrations from the motor and the lack of sufficient threads on the muffler has eaten the aluminum out of the cylinder head leaving behind for me practically no threads to work with, in addition to cheap welding once again, as can been seen from the photo, the support bracket detached due to great welding skill. basically a junked 220 cylinder head is whats left. I should have just went with a Saito Exhaust pipe extension and left it at that from the beginning. It is a real shame to see what that junk muffler has done to this awesome motor. I think the problem is the fact that these Keleo mufflers are made from steel and just about twice as heavy as the o.e.m part. leaving normal engine vibration to do damage. People who are complaining about their stock Saito mufflers backing out of the head, well the Keleo won't just back out but will eat out threads as well, and I am totally irritated that I had even purchased this muffler in the first place. So I just thought i'd share with all of you here what this muffler has done to my motor. I totally do not recommend keleo mufflers to anyone here, particularly the mufflers for the Saito 220, unless the guy can learn to mig weld aluminum instead of steel or make a proven and tested part that isn't twice as heavy, then I would tell you stay away from it.....It was by far the worst part running on my Mustang...IrRiTaTiOn!

not very cool. As far as your cylinder, it can be re-threaded so dont junk it. Call horizon and see what they can do for u. It'll be cheaper then buying a new cylinder itself.

Kahloq,
Thanks for that info I really appreciate that, I didnt think Horizon would even consider that kind of repair and just opt to replace the cylinder head altogether. I really wouldn't want to go with a new head to be honest not only for the price of parts and labor alone but because I really have this motor so well tuned and broken in to the T. this lil guy is a powerhouse unlike any glow motor I have ever had before. Thats really what makes this whole event irritating for me. but if they would re-thread it would that mean going up in piping size? or can they weld in new material and rethread thus retaining the original 15mm thread size? I really would prefer the latter so that i can make use of other piping or saito exhaust accessories that are out there, anyhow i will definately look in on it. BTW. The last cool thing I got to do with Frankie before this whole mess last week happened was that a clubmember at my field had his radar gun on hand and he had clocked three passes over our runway coming out of dives at 114, 124, and 119 mph. This was on an APC 18x8W prop, by the end of the first pass the exhaust note had changed already so it was probably running pretty much open exhaust on the last two passes. anyways back to this problem.
Take cares and thank you!

I just picked up a 1.50 mustang and a Saito 220 for it. I also ordered the Keleo scale exhaust. I hope if works better than a previous posters did!!

Hello, all
I'm in the process of re-doing one of these bad boyz in terms of the color scheme and some of the accessories, one of which includes the interior, has anyone ever done this to the H9 150 Stang?...if so, I would love to see photos of how it was done as the cockpit floor would need to come out from what I can see, but I think the structural integrity would be compromised in that particular area. So if anyone has any input at all it would be a big help.
Thanks in advance

Scale cockpit definately would be nice. I didnt do a scale cockpit but i remember just spiffing up the stock one a bit. Im not looking at mine as of the moment, but if i recall servos are just under the cockpit floor so youre prolly gonna be moving them to rear somewhere. I might be concerned about the fuse strength though. Ive pulled the Saito 220 Have a dle 35R waiting for it among my other h9 rebuilds. I think the gunfighter scheme would look sweet on this 150 mustang.

I know this is an old thread but I finally got my hands on Version 1 P-51 mustang with a Saito 200TI. I put a 16x8 prop on it and it was very sluggish. I cam in to land and stalled it out about 3 feet in the air. Landed square on the retracts and pulled the Landing blocks out . I saw a post from years back on upgrading the blocks. I will try and and see how it works. I am also going to try a 16x10 or 17x8 prop next time.

You will get a great boost of power in your four stroker if you use 30% nitro heli-mix fuel. 4 strokes respond far better to higher nitro content than 2 strokes without making the needle setting so critical. Try a gallon. You will be amazed at how well it will turn even larger props.
