Last one, bottom of new hatch. I used my scanner to make templates of the hatch formers. Re-cut some new ones out of ply with my scroll saw. Easy enough to fix the original hatch I damaged.

Question for Ron101.....Where did you mount your ESC? I am working on that part now and was thinking of making a tray right in front of the oval cutout in the firewall, just above the motor.

Thanks in advance,

Looking nice sundevil..your new hatch is awesome great work
For my ESC CC85 HV I just add a piece of stock to make a bridge behind the firewall where the fuel tank used to go.. and zip tied it in there.
I added a couple cooling hole in the firewall to cool it.. I soldered bullet connectors to pass through the firewall to the motor.. mine is balanced with zero lead

hope that makes sence .. I snapped a photo for you but it's hard to get a camera in there

I known right where that is...Thanks. Hopefully I can arrange mine to balance with no lead...I was already planning on putting the BEC Pro in the tank location so we'll see if the ESC will fit too.

[8D]Hi friends, I like this thread very much, specially the electrics conversions and the astonishing job of Kurrikan, and this is my first post on it. Always I love P-47, when I was a kid I build one from Guillows, all stringers and covered with 1/16 balsa for controline. Now I got the ARF 61 from TF. My idea is to do a conversion to electric. I´have at hand a Dualsky 5060 9T motor at hand, with a 80 A. ESC.
They´re intended for 6 cell lipos, and if possible, I would like to use 2 packs of them with 5000 mah. and 25-50 C.
Please can you tell me if I could use this set up and get enough power to fly it at scale speeds ?.
TX very much for the answer, and congratulations to Ron 101 for his beautifull job.
Manuel.

Thanks for the kind words Manuel,
I just love Top Flight planes it's hard to go wrong with them. I looked up that motor and that would be a nice setup. I think a good set of 6s 5000mah packs will fly it great. You will save some weight and have more than enough power.
I have a hanger 9 P-51 miss america that I've flown for many years on 6s and it flys really nice.. that plane is only 8.5 pounds.. I'm running a hacker A50-12L with a 16x12 prop. I get just over 1200 watts.
your motor has about the same KV so I think you will see right around 1300 watts with that prop.
If you keep it light you may be 10.5 pounds ready to fly. That's 123 watts per pound and will fly it nice and above scale performance. I like lots of power that's why I went 8s, but I think you will be fine.
You could fit one 6s 5000 mah pack you just have to cut out the top tray and make a new one down lower, or like you said run two 3s 5000 mah on the stock tray...
with 6s put everything you can in the nose for CG or you may need to add weight... my 8s 5000 are to the firewall and the CG is dead on

hope that helps some
Ron

[8D]Tx very much for your help, my friends. Ron, I will try to keep it light, just use the standard retract gear on the box, some surface detailing trying to do what you did in yours, and perhaps installing the drop tanks behind the wing. I got some time ago , three tanks from tower hobbies , one of them is the paper one. After the first flighs and check the performance of the set-up and get used to the Jug´s manners then I plan to install them.
Amigo Kurrikan, tx also for the kind comments, you know right now my final decision betwen P-51 and P-49 . After many time outside WWII, it is time to fly warbirds again, these last years all time was flying aerobatics fand 3D.
Manuel.

Hey Guys,
My bud Marvin (FlyBoyThe1) came out flying with me yesterday and shot some video of the P-47 for me. He put together a nice little clip for me.
He always does a great job. On the second pass watch for a bomb drop, now of course because we go to shoot a video one bomb hung up.. I'm pretty sure it's the ends point on the servo so I'll get that fixed
I was fighting a pretty good cross wind also, and the hung up bomb was messing with my trim... but enough of my excuses here the video
also I know some don't like music in videos ... well to bad it's my video..lol all you were going to hear was wind straight in the mic

Thanks for watching guys

Thought I would add some pics showing the Slimline inverted pitts muffler on the OS 91 surpass I had mentioned earlier. Fits nicely in the cowl. 40 bucks more then the 90 degree adapter mentioned in the manual. and no muffler sticking out. SWEET! remote glow and dubro fuel dot in black. Very clean install.

I am starting the build of my new P-47D and I really like the looks of this in cowl exhaust. Is this the only choice in this style exhaust or are there other choices? I noticed this one is going to cost about $80 and would like to get something a little cheaper. I will be running the OS FS-91.

Another question I have is.. I have read about upgrading the landing gear to the ROBO-struts. I do fly off grass so the wire gear could be a concern. I do not care about changing the mechanical part just the wire gear. Is there an option out there that will not require me cutting into the wing to make them fit? it looks like I will have to cut to fit the Robart ROBO-struts. thanks again for the help and info....

[8D]A very nice video Ron, Star Wars music don´t listen too bad, but I rather prefer Glen Miller for the Jug flying...... A very scale flight, and yes, it is actually what you said; power to spare and that detailing looks beautifull. Congratulations.
I got the Ace of Iron 1/7 bust pilot, and some books of Squadron Signals about de Thunder..., just to enter in the job and begin to enjoy.

Thanks so much Manuel!
Your really going to enjoy building this plane, I had a blast with it. It's also one of the best planes I've ever flown and I see why it's been hyped as a great first warbird for years.
Have fun with it and enjoy the journey getting to the first flight

let me know if you have any questions, you can always PM me

thanks

A fellow Top Flite P-47 pilot (but his was kit built, and MUCH better looking than mine) sent me this pic of mine, taken at the Evansville, IN warbird event in mid May.
I kinda like it: all three wheels tucked away, couple of Vortac bombs hanging from the wings.
One thing really bothered me about it: WHERE'S THE FRICKIN PILOT?
I've got one that will fit, and have been talking about putting him where he belongs for quite awhile now, now if I could only find him,.....

[8D]Yeap, your Jug looks gorgeus and beautifull on the air too, but the lack of pilot in his office doesn´t honor to this wonder. I always use pilots inside, even in sports models. They adds a lot a realism. And if they´re ladies.......

Default RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods

Guys i have this same plane and have gone electric with it. This is my frst electric plane so im kinda new at finding parts and what and where to look for. Iv got a Great Planes Rimfire 1.20 50-65-450 Outrunner Brushless motor, Great Planes 80amp high volt esc and a 18.5 volt 3600mAh lipo running a 16x8 APC prop. This is the recommended setup from electrifly's website and supposedly compared to a .91 2-stroke in power. I have been running this setup in it it for a few weeks now and everything seems to work fine...My question is is this????? Im wanting to put a scale spinner prop hub on it but im not to sure exactly what adapters i will need or what prop hub will actually work. Not sure if regular prop hubs from tru-turn or somewhere will work, or if they have to be electric on type hubs. Any info on it would be appreciated, thanks

OK guys just got the arf and am ready to start building. A few questions

Where is everyone getting the pylons to mount bombs and drop tanks etc. They look very cool but can't seem to find a link to them As well as the drop mech

OS Surpass 91 four stroke is going in mine. With the included spinner, do I have to still use the second nut to lock the first nut into place for for stokes?? Not sure I'm clear, OS has a second nut you put on after the first nut secures the prop...Guess it stops the first nut from spinning off.

Thats it for now
