Thanks Andy for the reply.
I will certainly look into that thread.
One question.....I was trying a few days ago to solder a barb to my 1/8'' brass tube with no luck. No matter what I did the solder didn't stick of flow in position.
Any suggestion to how to solder brass items together?
Thanks
Fabio
Fabio,

Yes...........had the same trouble..........bought this............http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...8&I=LXCGZ0&P=K
Does the job

I have a propane torch as well.
Trouble is the solder does not stick to the brass once it's melting.
Wonder why.
And yes I cleaned both with sand paper and used flux before soldering.

Thanks

I'm wanting to put a OS91FX in this arf and would like to side mount it over inverted because of trouble with the inverted position, just searching for some advice as the only other motor I have for this airplane is a Saito 120.

I'm running an O.S. FS-95V in mine, mounted inverted. I have no problems with it at all - runs great.

I'm putting a DLE20 gas engine with the Jtec pitts muffler. It fits well and I've heard it flies very well with this engine. Just something to think about. I had an OS91FSII I was going to put in it but got bitten by the gas bug..........not too bad on price and very much better on operational costs..

Cheers,
Andy

I'm concerned about my proposed inverted 2 stroke (OS 91FX) not running properley, can I side mount this engine as every one is mounting their engine inverted, soughta thinkin maybe I side mount this engine but may have to cut too much cowl for a good fit. Maybe I take the gamble to see if my engine will run inverted without additional glow etc.

I'm thinking you are overly paranoid. Can't speak for anyone else, let alone EVERYONE else, but Saito 1.00 is totally inverted, as it is in other models. NO PROBLEMS! Mine does not stick out of the cowl at all. Only holes are for glow plug access (no onboard glow), needle valvels, and exhaust cut out. If you side mount it, you will most certainly have to cut a large hole for the jug.

BTW: if you want to know how "every one is mounting their engine", you might want to consider reading the entire thread, rather than asking "every one" to re-post (hope the forum police find my reply 'sensitive' enough).

I side mounted my 91FX because I was concerned about the same things. It might not have been necessary, but it will give me peace of mind. After messing with so many fickle warbird engines, I want something that's dead stout reliable. I did have to cut a round hole in the cowl for the head, but it doesn't look too terrible.

irocbsa,

Nobody will notice the side-mounted engine as you fly past really fast! Enjoy your plane!

That's kinda what I was thinking. After dealing with heavy and complicated ESM/CMP planes, I'm ready to have a well mannered and easy to maintain fun-flyer. I had some heartburn about cutting the cowl since I have spent so much time and money in the past to avoid doing that, but the 91FX was just laying around looking for a home. The Pitts muffler should be at my door step today, so I'm hoping to maiden the plane some time this week!

Hello
I need some help from those of you that have installed a DLE 20 in the plane.
I am having some issues with fuel line routing and expecially with the throttle linkage which runs the opposite of the stock position, under the tank and across the receiver/battery compartment.
Anyone willing to share some photos and or ideas of their set up?

Thanks for your help.

Fabio

I have an inverted Saito in mine as well as some other planes... the 4 stroke run great inverted, but 2 strokes can be a bit harder to get dialed in. Have you thought of mounting the .91 OS 2 stroke at say the 7-7:30 position? Others have had less tuning trouble doing this- but I haven't tried it.

Hi Fabio, I am also fitting the DLE 20. I am using the stock mount ,just trimmed the insides of the beams. You cantake-off and flip the carb so the throttle and fuel lines now on top.

Could someone please tell me the brand nameof the flat olive paint used for the cowl as top-flite don't list the paint on the cowl just in case I have to do some patch ups, cheers.

A brief update on my plane, I swapped out the 91FX for an O.S. 108 that I got a screaming deal on. I'm swinging a 14 X 7 three blade. This thing really cooks. My friend had a Little Toni with a 125 Saito on it and I was outrunning him by about 5MPH. That should put this plane in the 115MPH range. [X(]

Here's some pictures I took the other day.

I am a bit disappointed......
I finally sat the plane on the main gear with everything on it and the stock landing gear is so flimsy that it wobble side to side when I try to start the engine. In addition the gear looks not perpendicular to the wing but inwards quite a bit like a bowed lagged man.
Any of you experiencing the same problem with stock gear?
Is there a way to fix it besides going and buying $200 retracts from Robart?
Thanks for the help.

I think that the 60-120 electric retracts from E-Flite are a much better solution (~$135) than the Robarts. Ihave them on mine and they work great. Pair them with a set of RCSkylite Thunderbolt struts (~$50) and you've got a hell of a setup.

+1 on the E-Flites. Great set of gear for a great price.

That is the combination I have and it is great.

With the E-flite set up do the legs wobble side to side or are really sturdy?
Thanks

Is the wobble in the retract itself or just in the wire strut? Simply upgrading to functional struts may solve your problems without having to resort to changing out the retract unit entirely.

I've never had any sort of "wobble" (although I definitely had a few rough landings in crosswind situations that bent the 5mm shaft that joins the struts to the retracts - easy and quick fix there). If the wobble is because of the full-length 5mm rods, I definitely think upgrading to the RCSkylite functional oleo struts will help eliminate it. They're pretty rock-solid right now.

Mine do not wobble but then I am using the RCSkylite struts with the E-Flite retracts.

Are the stock retracts legs compatible with rcskylite struts?
The web site calls for 5mm. Is that the diameter of the stock ones?

Thanks for the help.
