Larry,

I don't remember. I do know that whatever I did I got rid of the hole.

Hey Larry, did you fix the rubbing wheel problem. I like the look of those wheels, whose are they? Chic

Boyd,
Wheels are Robarts plastic hubs, I tried to contact Glennis but I think they are out if business.
Waiting for screws to come from Micro fasteners hopefully by Thursday so I can mount the middle door.
I know you said you used a piano hinge for the lower door but here is a picture of Deans? door, can't decide which way to go.
What size wire did you use on the lower gear door

Thanks
Larry

Larry,

I never could get it to work right. I went with air cylinders, and a UP3 air valve. It has some complicated plumbing but well worth the trouble.

Boyd,
So here's the rub. I have the middle door temp in position and the upper door attached but when I gently raise the gear the 2 doors hit each other.
I know I must be doing something wrong and just can't figure it out, pix attached

Thanks
Larry

Larry,

I had the same problem. Sand the ends where the two doors meet. Increase the gap until you solve the problem. I think mine had as much as a 1/8th gap.

Boyd,
Thanks for the info, worked perfect with an 1/8" gap. I will try and get the angle right when I get back from the model train show in Phoenix and BEFORE the big game.
I'm thinking a thin sheet of acetate glued to the back of the top door would be thin enough to be flexible and cover the gap when the gearretracts, will let you know.

Very strange, I thought I posted these pix of my fix. What I did was to make some shims for the middle door and then filled the space between
them with balsa filler which I then hit with thin CA to strengthen it

.
Boyd, do you have a pic of the lower door with the air cylinder set up?

Larry,

I did not take pic's of the air cylinder installation for the mains. I'll take a pix and let you know the size of the air cylinder I used. I'm guessing the mechanical set up is not working?

Boyd,
Haven't gotten that far yet but I figured if you couldn't get it to work I'll never pull it off. Also if I do that setup what would keep the door from flapping in the air stream????

Thanks

Larry,

I think the pix's are self explanatory. Make sure you keep the cylinders away from the tire. As you can see the complicated piping, but well worth the trouble. I forgot the length of the stroke of the cylinder. May be 1".

Well alright. Waiting to see it work on your airframe. Hint: Give the "Lady" an early Valentine gift, those cylinders will magically appear. I just take Shirley to TJ Max for some "Retail Therapy" and it works. I'm teasing her now to get well, get better so that I can drop you off for a short shopping tour. Chic

Okay guys, I think I came up with another idea for the lower doors, please let me know if I've lost my mind or what....
I'm thinking torsion springs, 2 on each door, please check out the following link and let me know

Okay guys here's a pix of what I'm thinking....
Chic, wife and I have this arrangement, she spends whatever she wants and when I spend it's always "Really did you need that and couldn't you wait"
On the upside I just got a temp P/T job at Lowes in the tool and hardware dept. $12.22/HR 15 - 25 HRS a week , if she thought I was spending before WOOHOO!!!!!!!

Hey guys,
Was speaking to a friend of mine who is also an avid builder unlike me and he suggested using sonic tronic door hinges with the torsion spring already installed. He is going to give me a pair to see if those work rather than using air cylinders. Stay tuned...
Am going to try and get the canopy rails installed in the fuse until I can get to see my friend.

Boyd, again thanks for all the tutelage and help, can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate it

Okay guys,
Since it's raining today I am going to attempt to get the canopy slides done and cut the canopy frame. My angst over the canopy frame is kind of holding me back since I'm scared to death I will screw it up. I need to get some work done on this before I start my PT job at Lowes on Wednesday.
Boyd, I really think I'm going to try the torsion spring idea since the thought of all that plumbing and adding 2 cylinders isn't giving me a lot of confidence in my abilities.
Been raining here for 2 days and I thought they only got rain in the valley during the summer

The canopy was a challenge for me. I made sure that I cut off less than what I needed to, then kept cutting until I got the fit correct.

Hey Chic.
When we did the Avenger Cowls we cut right to Charli's lines and it cam out 99% perfect. If you go through the T28 thread Boyd had a problem with the back end of the canopy that's why the ?
You are going to love masking the glass on the Avenger canopy, I did it from the inside so that there would be any paint that could flake off from the outside. I used Tamiya masking tape, comes in roll various widths the smaller the width the easier it is to curve, then went back with a wider piece and finally a piece of blue painters tape.... almost as tedious as the bomb bay doors

Later Brother
