YES! We have a winner! And correct the Ranger engine was also owned by Fairchild. The Warner super scarab was the alternate engine.
I grew up with a F-24G NC19164 parked on one side of our two car garage awaiting restoration. Which was credited with a German U-boat whiile doing CAP scouting missions out of New Jersy in WW-II.
The black and orange aircaft in the earlier post is a former CAA now FAA airplane that hangs in the Termial at Anchorag Int'l Airport.
The model 24 was the U.S. UC-61 Forwarder, and the UK Argus.

After a few first's during the early years of ww2 this twin engine aircraft was withdrawn from front line service. It did however continue to be of use. It had (imo) an odd twin tail

RE: Knowledge Quiz for Warbird wiz
here we go....
I'm looking for an aircraft
1. The fuselage of this aircraft was based on a previous design that had a completely different role.
2. Starting operations in the 50's it outlasted its replacement and is still in limited use today.

Now I've got it, the Lockheed U-2;U-2R/TR-1 Kelley Johnson started with the fuselage of the F-104. Its replacement was the SR-71, The other country was Tiawan or Nationalist China
