Guys on a 60 even a 120 size bird if you heat treat the wire it strengthens it considerably to were this problem is no longer an issue , I have also went as far as using titanium rods with great results , so what every body boo hooing about ?

I have posted this link several times, but I will do it again for this thread as well http://www.vaillyaviation.com/images...re%20_web_.pdf a good read

it covers heat treating music wire some good information on tempering, I have had good results tempering the connector posts for several brands of gear, done properly there really hard to bend, even 5/32 wire, and making a new one cost pennies.

if horizon had a sequencer that could slow these down just a bit, they would look alot more scale, they really snap.

Nice video - thanks for the link!

I can't help but notice; John made no mention of the rotating version being released in late June with the rest. I hope they are not too far behind!

Since they are kinda like servos, does using the servo speed function in your transmitter slow them down?

Definitely availabel for the flying season. Will be here soon.
Well, this is almost mid June ... are these close to being available yet, John? Here in the "Great White North" our "flying season" doesn't last that long!

I have a Hangar 9 Mustang Sport 40 ARF and it recommends the Hangar 9 air retract kit  "HANP51".

Will the 60 size E-flite retarcts be a drop in replacement?

You have spammed about every electric retract thread. Sometimes <from a consumers perspective> less is more.

I think we can all read the banner adds?

"Since they are kinda like servos, does using the servo speed function in your transmitter slow them down? "

I am wondering the same thing , in my small eletric retracts the settings for "gear" need to be adjusted in movement to get the retracts to work and they work quite well .
As far as slowing them down , hobbylobby may have a part for that , I emailed them to see what they can do

Beware of one thing if flying Spektrum. It is advised to never use slow down modules... reverse "Y"s and the likes. Never knew it till I read it on the Spektrum web page!

I would be using the servo slow functions built into my transmitters.
That being said, I read somewhere else that the speed cannot be controlled. The gear do not have a true feedback type pot. or something like that? The motor runs until it is told to stop.

I am the one who first posted the Y harness info on RCU . So we have the fact straight its not the Y harness or a simple slow down module ect .
Its the noise restrictor on a Y harness typically found on a reversing Y harness , not as common on a typical Y harness .

THe noise restictors tend to create interfernace with the 2.4 system .

You can use a Y harness with zero problems but its not suggested to use one with a noise restrictor on one side

Unfortunately, E-flite did not make it to market soon enough for me; I went with the "new" Lado 333RB instead for my Hellcat. Moreover, I never saw any E-flight .60 size retracts in stock at Horizon. Too bad. Anyhoo, I'll post my thoughts on the new Lados in another thread.

I also was waiting for the Horizon's but decided to go with the new Lados. I ordered them last Saturday and got them this morning (air freight from France). Shipping was a little more but worth it. Bought 2 sets of rotating - one for a H9 Hellcat and the other for a H9 Corsair. The corsiar was in dire need of a retract upgrade as the stocks were next to impossible to calibrate. I would get one maybe 2 flights out of them before I had to yank them out and readjust the pushrods. As a result, the corsair hasn't been flown much since it's build this past winter. The hellcat is fine but I figured a retract upgrade wouldn't hurt.

Horizon if your listening. I'll be buying yours also when they are available, so get those things to market :-)!! I've got plenty of planes that could use a retract upgrade.

When has Horizon advertised rotating retracts of any size? I missed it if they did. Yet a number of people are talking about using e-flites in F6F, Corsair and P40s. Anybody seen rotating ones?

No, they haven't advertised any rotating retracts to my knowledge. Moreover, they haven't even had the standard .60 size electronic retracts; I think that is the underlying issue. Hopefully, they will ramp up production soon on both types!

My VQ 190 waits patiently for E-Flite to release the 85 degree retracts. Come on baby!

I also have a Pica Dora and a TF Dora project wating for a set, so that makes three right there.

pjakew, off topic question here: I noticed on your pic that you modded the FW 190 flap pushrod to standard external setup, did you have any problems with the internal linkage?

I am building the same plane [link=http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1081864]link here[/link] and I was just wondering

So does anyone know what size wire goes in these retracts, it doesn't say on the eflite site. I need to know if I can modify it to take struts.

Yep I am with the others... wire is no good! need to put a strut on it!!

I'm new to retracts and am somewhat cinfused as to what the various types "in degrees" mean ...

For instance in the first post John wrote :

"90° main units
85° main units for you P-51, P-47 guys out there"

What does that mean? Whats the difference between between the 90 and the 85? (besides one being 5degrees more than the other!)Is it that the struts iin the 85 degree ones are "bent in" 5 degreesmore in the locked position whereas the 90 degree ones are straight (90 degrees to the wing) in the down position ?
