RE: 1/8 scale TopFlite Corsair Mods
CorsairJock,
If it's my TF Corsair crash you're wandering about, I must confess it was my building error. I used a silicone exhaust deflector to exit the exhaust pipe from the cowl. BIG MISTAKE! The hot 4 stroke exhaust gases burned through that deflector, through the firewall, and melted my retract air lines and on/off switch. I was lucky in that the repairs were relatively minor and the plane was saved.
By the way, I incorporated your rounded fuse front, fin and rudder mods, wingtip mod, and simulated exhaust stack mod in that build, along with many others. I knew I definitely needed to use the rounded fuse front mod for airflow to that SP engine. That's an ingenious way of doing it, and practical too!
Thanks for starting this thread many years ago.

Total price was $236.00 this was a one time run and if it went into production with enough interest, I suspect the price would drop.

Cool video, I just happen to have a die cast model of the bird cage version. Its cool there are people that can do this kind of work to keep our history alive...Here a few pics of the die cast model I have, the markings may not be correct but it is what it is. Steve.

hey John, I was catching up on previous pages.. since all mods are in the first 50 pages..
Anyway.. I have cut the tail retract parts and have enough for 5 tail retract setups. I bought a 3x4 piece of Garolite. This is with lathed parts.. all that is necessary is put together or I can do it and sell it to you..

Hi,
I already set mine up with the tailwheel in post 1319 in this thread..but I suppose I could re-fit it with a scale one.. how much do you want for the parts and how much for an assembled unit? (did you make the tail hook version?)
I am contemplating what to do about these flaps and ailerons. The lumber that came with my kit is heavy and warped.
I am thinking about building them kind of the way the middle flap is in the kit.

The F4U-1? I dont think they mentioned what caused it.Just that the pilot survived only to die in a mid-air over Hawaii two months later.

TIme for a update pic. I sort-of did the rudder mod, and the tailhook mod. Oh and I fattened up the airfoil on the vertical and horizontal stabs.

And now for something entirely different. Not your same old same old WWII version, how bout a Reno Racer one.
Used the "Super Corsair" as a reference. Powered by electric, 20 pounds of thrust and should be right at the century mark for speed.
Just completed, only took 13+ years. Friend started it back in Nov 97, and gave up. I took over in August of this year. Think she came out pretty nice.

Nice to see everyone still pushing forward on their projects. I'll be back, but probably not until at least next winter. The full scale wooden boat project continues to keep me very busy.

Hey Tom,
I thought you were nearly done. How much more do you have left to do on yours?
I recently installed an OS 1.20 FS and installed the cowl. It weighs 7 lbs right now but it still needs the main gear installed, as well as 5 more servos and the muffler.

It's always great to hear that there will be more well finished, scale looking Corsairs out there, and I really hope I can get the opportunity to meet some of you someday, and fly our Corsairs together.
As for the machine guns: I have turned over my molds to Dan Gipe, who is the current owner of Wing Mfg. Dan is a member of my club (ThunderBirds R/C Club of Kalamazoo/ Galesburg, MI). Wing Mfg produces MANY scale add on parts for warbirds, including the drop tanks I mentioned a few posts ago. So, Dan will be selling these (altho not yet listed on his web-site) for $5 a set + shipping. He will bring some to sell at the Toledo show (Wing Mfg. booth).
I have been selling a few sets for him also. My price is the same, but I include some instructions AND a scale size (1/8) drawing of the wing underside. I charge $5 for Priority Mail/ delivery confimation shipping, for a total of $10 (for 1 set, additional sets do not need extra shipping charges). Due to the fact that these are a low cost, nil profit item (not worth the time it takes to advertise/ package/ take to post office/ etc.), I now only accept payment via verified PayPal (which will include your shipping address with payment notication) on these, as it simplifies the process. I would prefer that PayPal funding does not originate from your credit card, as PayPal takes a cut out those payments. If you can make a non-credit card funded PayPal paymet, send it to ''[email protected]'' and I will get them out to you. If you absolutely must use a credit card, e-mail me at the address above and I will provide you with a different e-mail address, which you can make payment to.
Thanks, and hope to see some of you this coming summer. Still looking for a warbird flying somewhere near US 41, between Gary, IN and Madisonville, KY, Labor Day weekend. Let me know.

Corsairjock,
Are the machine guns still available? I searched on the Wing Mfg site, and was not able to find them.
Thanks, Paul

Mine has been in primer waiting for panel lines and details for 2 years. I imagine that it will wait another year based on my boat project list.

Bottom line: sorry, I think they are all gone, and won't be available again.

RE: 1/8 scale TopFlite Corsair Mods
Hey Tom
These projects do tend to stagnate for long periods, my Corsair did as well. But NZ5385 is all but finished now, just needs the nose art and serial numbers; final fitting of the batteries, receiver, and external air connector which will go in the opening under the nose with the remote glow connector and fuel dot. Oh and I have to paint inside the wheel wells etc.
I want to add the radio masts, and the lights under the wings, but they can wait till after the test flight and settling-in is out of the way.
The weight came out at 10lbs dry ready to fly and the CG is not too bad, just 1/2" too far back before I have played about with battery placement etc. so I'm very happy with that.
I have experimented with weathering and dirtying, and the beat-up appearance was helped a bit when we had a major earthquake here in September and falling stuff struck the fuselage in several spots. Fortunately only glancing blows and no real damage - very lucky.
Here are some pics of the plane; and also the remote glow clip I made as commercial ones are to big for the clearance available in the cowl.

I dont know if anyone has covered this...
I used Elmer's white glue to add somedetail to my robart wheels to make them more Corsair looking.
Update: After having some of these little blobs of glue come off, I would recommend using thick CA or epoxy for this mod.

Hi Budmo,
Your Corsair is looking very nice. I hope to see it at a One Eighth Air Force event at some point in the future. May I ask the diameter of the static prop and where you acquired it? I need one for my 1/8 scale Hellcat!
