The way I look at it If they can see the props counter rotating in flight more power to them ... Stable flyer is worth use of the counter rotation. I plane on using the counter rotating props on mine also... Beautiful weathering...

One change was with the moving gun turret and machine gun idea.

Yes I am going to add sides to the Bomb Bay Doors with 3/16 plywood, however opening this area up did not weaken the wing since I did not cut into or remove any spars. Doing this will only make the wing stronger. I will post more pictures as I finish the process

Balance was right on. But, in the grass and with full UP elevator the tail was light.

The friction on the main wheels in the grass causes the tail to lift and or bounce slightly during taxi.

I can report that it did help the taxi by moving the gear forward.
Keep in mind I am using 4.5" main gear wheels.

That looks great.

Let me tell you, With all the weathering detail. if your B-17 flys anything like mine does. Your flights will be show stopping for sure.
Mine is electric and all up weight is 28 lb 9 oz with 2860 watts of power. (715 watts per motor)

I have 6 flights on mine and the only change I have made so far was to move the main gear as far forward as I could. (I posted before and after images)
The tail seamed light and it was not easy to taxi in the grass.

The other change I plan is to set my throttles up for better ground control in the grass.

Here is the plan. My hope is that I can pull it off.
My plan is to flip a switch and that willturn off the inner motors and mix the outter motors with the rudder.
So, if I throttle up say 25 % power.
Both outer motors will power up to 25 %.
If I move the rudder stick full left the left engine will slow which will help turn the model left.
Once I am ready to takeoff. I flip the switch back and all motors are only controlled with the throttle stick.

Here is how I think it can be done.
First I use 3 channels for the throttles.
I mix the outboard engines with the rudder using 2 channels. (1 for right motor and 1 for the left.
The inner motors connect to a Y and plug into a 3rd channel.
My hope is with some program mixing I can pull this off.

I will update as to how it goes.

On my ASM Lancaster that is electric I have mixed rudder with throttles on my 12Z so when I turn for example left the left engines drops in revs,big help to make nice turns without the tail dropping..
Also helps when taking off if I have the wind from one side...
I dont think I´ll trust my glow engines enough to do this in the B17 though..

I didnt get very far this weekend. I was working in the garage when my hot water heater tank ruptured. I had to spend the day repairing it.

I did finish the bottom of the wing and got it cleared with the metalized exhaust.

I found out that it is the fluorescent lighting that was throwing off my colors. Everything looks green under it. I'm doing all of my painting out doors in natural light now.
