IFF friend or foe lights info please
Hi folks,
I'm currently building a 100" SBD. I seek info in order to replicate working IFF friend or foe lights situated on the underside of the fuz. I believe these flash a sequence? If so, roughly how long would this sequence last? Would it be a combination of flashes and longer flashes (a bit like morse code - dot/dash)?
Has anyone a video of an IFF light sequence working?
Thanks in advance

Just to be clear, you mean recognition lights. IFF was something totally different - it used radio signals not lights.
As uncljoe noted you can't go wrong with however you set the lights to flash because the sequences were changed often. You could have red and amber flash and green steady for example.

This is what I'm asking about, I understood these were 'identification friend or foe' lights, and radio identification came later, but I am most probably wrong!
What I would like to know is how long a sequence would usually be. I was thinking a combo of about 10 flashes, but have no idea how likely that would be?

As far as the correct sequence, I doubt it was a long sequence for night ops, & not too complex,as the AA operators on ships/ground had to be aware of what it was,& they(gunners) usually shot first .Most likely used the KISS principle .
If you want an official report I would contact either the National Archives (Washington DC) or the US Naval aviation
Museum in P'Cola Fl.
