Thanks Stan. I really like the speed. These look very interesting. Hope they will be at Toledo this week end. I'd like to talk with them.

Any of you guys going?

Got my shopping list put together, I think.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...ssed_smile.gif

Excellent, I'm very glad you are doing this. I predict this will me THE way that these cowls will be done in the future. Even if the cowl flaps are not done, this is still a great mod with these radials. Awh crud, this means I've got 2 more cowls to do now.<div>

OK. I'm into the cowl mod. I discovered that if you already have the cowl mounts installed in the Y pattern, the top two can remain. Just the bottom one needs relocated.

Here is my procedure so far.

step 1. change the cowl mounts to two on each side and permanently install these. I first mount these brackets to the cowl ring as shown. I notched them for the exhaust ports to get them a little closer to the bottom. Then it is an easy thing to mount you're cowl using the top ywo bolts, and tack glue the bottom two. Remove the cowl and make this a permanent install.

I have come up with a way to add the guide pins to the top and bottom of the nose of the cowl. This will be

step 2. cut two pieces of 3/16 ID aluminum tube into 2" lengths. Plug both ends with some balsa and thin CA. Glue one inside the top and the other inside the bottom, centered on where you will be making the cut. . I'll show you how I get them lined up with each other when I can post pictures. These are then embedded in the Steel Powder that is poured into the nose of the cowl. Now, when you cut the cowl apart, you will have an aluminum sheath in each half into which you will slide the CF rod guide pins. I'll glue them in one side. Easy and perfectly lined up.

step 3. will be adding the Steel Powder to the cowl nose. When it is cut in two, the embedded aluminum tubes should be perfectly lined up for the guide pins.

RE: CARF F4U-1 Corsair build thread

step 4. will be, ok, no going back now, be brave, hold your tong correctlyhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...ngue_smile.gif, cut the cowl in two. I use a dimond cutting wheel. Very thin so it removes the minimun amount of material possible.

That wasn't so bad.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...eeth_smile.gif

Looks like CARF lost a sale on a new cowl.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f.../thumbs_up.gif

I'll add pictures to these posts when RCU likes pictures again.

Hello Gary,
I would like to purchase your gun system for the Carf Corsair. Could you please advise how best to proceed? (already have the exhaust stacks.)
Thanks in advance.
Bye the way, does anybody know anything about a 1/5 scale P&amp;W 9 cil. 4-stroke 200cc petrol engine by Authentic Scale, and would it make a good engine for the Corsair?
Regards,
Christiaan (Belgium)

Hi Gary,i forgot to tell Christiaan to ask you if we could use the gun system on a 2s Life accu since that is already in the wing for the hydraulic system, grtz Bruno.

Hello Christian.

You came to the right place. I have just returned from the Toledo Expo, and spent some time talking in person with Antonio with Authentic Scale about his engines. He had one there and also had internal parts displayed. This is one fine engine. Here are some reasons why I think it is better than the Moki.
<ul>[*]priced much lower than the Moki 250 and even though it is smaller in CCs size (200), it has similar power (more on this later)[*]designed and produced in the US[*]has valve rocker covers and internal lubrication for these parts[*]comes with an electric fuel pump[*]has a specially tuned exhaust collector ring which aids the 'breathing of the cylinders[*]runs cooler at about 200 deg. at any location (no hot or cold spots)[*]is supercharged !!!!!! (reason why this smaller engine can be so powerful)[*]ignition is from a 'spurt' of sparks Vs just one spark per cycle[*]maintenance is no more than any other gas engine due to the valve covers[*]is a scale looking radial stock, and can be made to look almost exactly like an R-2800 with an optional $400 bolt on accessory kit[*]Authentic makes a scale prop matched to this engine with adjustable pitch[*]fits anywhere you would use a Moki, unlike the Evolution radial[/list]These guys have really built something special here. And what is coming in the near future is even more impressive. A 1/5 scale Merlin, liquid cooled, supercharged (geared!!!), with scale exhaust, and a scale Spitfire prop!!!!!!

His Merlin is so powerful, that it will fly all the way up to a 1/3 scale plane!!!! He is simply making larger scale exhaust pipes, and different gearing in the shaft output unit for the larger size props. He showed me the full size drawings of this engine and it is awesome to saw the very least. I may just have to build another P-51.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...wink_smile.gif

As for the gun system, please PM me and we will fix you up.

Yes, you can use 2c LiPos. The thing is, it takes about 36V to drive the speakers. Really, I have decided to set the system up for AAs unless specifically requested other wise. We send (3) battery caddies which hold a total of 24 AAs. Use good Alkaline batteries, and they will last all season. Your guns are only 'fired' a few times each flight, and then only for a second or two in bursts, just like the real thing. Very little battery is used, but you need the voltage.

The sound is load, and the light are bright (with color, unlike any other system out there).

You guys see this? It is a thief at the Toledo show caught on camera. Anyone know him? I feel for the vendors, and people who may know this guy, but don't know the sort of person he is.

I watched it again and it looks like the two guys are in a conversation with a man on standing behind that flag. I think that is why they appear to be watching the thief.

This guy is pretty slick. Looks like he has some experience at this, unfortunately.
