Hi Gary,

Thanks for the respone.

Unrelated question re wing fold -:

I have the outer wings complete with servos, leads fitted etc, and the cables pass through the wing tube when plugged into the centre wing section.

Problem is, the servo connectors, being bulky, get trapped in the wing fold, as the cables etc are prevented from sliding in and out of the wing tube as it folds or unfolds.

Have you experienced this or are your cables installed differently ?

Cheers

Steve D

Hi Gary

wondering if you could point me into the right direction re Moki 250 scale exhaust for this kit.

Here are some pictures of what we have done with the wires on the folding wing version. In front of the fold mechanism are the wires for the lighting and gun system, behind the mechanism are the wires for the flap and aileron.

Got another video of the tail gear doors uploaded. Here is a link.

I'll have a video of the gun system completely installed and in action soon. Very cool.

Here is a video to help with cutting the tail gear doors apart. The ARF version has them split incorrectly, but you can section them correctly if you are building the kit version.

Here is a video of our gun and lighting systems installed on the plug-in wing version. Also shown is the 'trigger 'setup on the radio.

One caution, as with the full scale gun systems, short bursts are recommended. Although the barrels are in no danger as with the full scale, in our case, the control circuit board could be overheated. It is protected by a large heat sink, but continuous will still heat it up. Aim carefully and use short bursts. :)

Hi Gary, I love your gun system. John Boy

ram3500-RCU 02-05-2014 08:32 AM

thanks John. We are very happy with it. several have been sold, but I have not seen any video of them surface.

BTW, what do you think of the Orange lights vs the white normally used?

John Taylor 02-05-2014 09:57 AM

Gary thought they were white. I could not tell any difference. JB

ram3500-RCU 02-05-2014 10:03 AM

I'll look for more feedback on that. thanks.

JSZ 02-05-2014 10:10 AM

If both were set up you could definitely tell the difference. I like the yellow better.

Mine is all set up, haven't mounted the speakers yet, won't be able to get the intakes in if the speakers are in first. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1965713 can't wait to try them!

thanks John. We do too. never liked the white. looked like flashing landing lights to me.

Big Hog is coming back in for some updates and an annual. maybe I can get them together for a comparison.

you do really nice work Mike. hope to see your plane in person someday.

Here is the control surfaces being exercised.

BTW, the gun system is powered by 24 AA batteries for a total of 36 volts. Battery cases are provided and pre-wired. This will power your system all summer. We all know what can happen to AA batts though. Check them at least once a month, and take them out for extended storage. Other than that, they are great for this application.

Please note, the gear doors on this model were cut out by another modeler prior to the build being turned over to us. The fit of the doors, while satisfactory for operation, is not up to our standards of construction.

This video shows what most modelers will have for the front strut cover on the main gear. You will see the top of the door actually retract behind the leading edge.

Now on the full scale, a piece of leather was stretched over this area to cover it as the gear was retracted. To accomplish this, the door was hinged and moved down the strut as the gear came down so it DID NOT move behind the leading edge, which would have pulled the leather loose.

On our Top Gun entry, we installed the door in the same manor as the full scale. It was intricate, and complex.

This method is much easier and works just fine, if your not going to compete with her.

Here is that competition version of these doors. See the doors move as the leather is stretched.

There is a great place to put the gun batteries in the forward lower part of the fuse. I built a little cover and will put the fuel pump or ignition on top of it.

Gary, do you like this way better than the one you did with the little ball links that were attached to the gear in roughly the same spot. I was planning on doing it that way, looked pretty clean.

This will work fine Mike.

I like to eliminate connections between the wing and fuse whenever I can. that is why we keep them in the wing. it is a closed circuit that way. if I need more ballast than I can get in the cowl, i put steel powder where you have those batteries. it usually takes about 4.5lbs. I like to keep that area open till I get her balanced.

It is a small thing to most, I guess, but I like the timing of the doors better on the spring and cable way. The doors operate almost as if they were on a sequencer. There are more parts, but they are simple to make, and even simpler to adjust.

The ball link method is clean for sure, but be prepared to learn a new language when you install it. I can give you basic dimensions, but every plane is different in that the bulkhead the gear mounts to will be in a slightly different place on each aircraft, and there isn't much room for adjustment on the links because they are so short. So, it is all about where you glue the horn and the door.

Here is what the spring openers looked like before I installed them.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1966120

This is a handy little assortment of springs that I use for things like this. I got it from Harbor Freight. http://www.harborfreight.com/200-pie...set-67562.html
