EasyTiger's giant scale corsair

I like the looks of this model, and the fact that it's a "bird cage" canopy version, but not with the later, Korean-era markings. The bird cage corsairs were some of the earliest models, the first ones pre-dating the stars and bars markings. Still a good-looking bird. Comments?

You are right about the paint, I was really thinking about getting one of these. With the outer wing panels being built up wood I would need to take the covering off and sand the wing tips down, or it may need new wing tip blocks because they are sanded down to much on top. Next would be new oil cooler intakes and that would be about it. Would be a great project.

RE: EasyTiger's giant scale corsair

Now here's a classic case of a model NEEDING to be released as an 'Ready-to-Cover' and/ or 'Ready-to-Paint'. Korean war markings/ scheme on a 1942/ early 1943 version F4U-1? A shame some companies put so much research & delepment into a model to get the airframe basically: RIGHT, only to blow it by putting a totally in-appropriate finish on it.

But I do have a few couple of other critisizms:

1)Wingtips appear WAY too rounded/ blunt, maybe to prevent 'hangar rash' or other incidents which could dent them? BUT, it they are built up wood as stated in another post: should be an easy fix once the covering is removed (which needs to done anyway, so an better/ more scale accurate finish can be applied).

2) I know some of you like the open cowl flaps, but I have NEVER seen them open on a full scale when they are flying 'normal'. The only time I've seen them open is when they are on the ground, and when they are either taking off or landing. I would prefer that they were mostly closed, for better/ more scale accurate looks while they are flying. ALTHO, there will no doubt be some modelers who will figure out a way to make them movable/ functional, which would be 'the cat's meow'.

Other than that: it is GREAT to see a 'bird-cage' version.

Yea, the cowl flaps do look strange being open that far, easy fix though.

Yeah! Glad to see someone finally making a birdcage corsair, even with the wrong paint scheme.
This is an ARF bashers dream plane. Lots of detail and most of the scale inaccuracies can be easily fixed.

Is it an illusion because the cowl flaps are open or does the cowling appear disproportionately short?

Looks, to me, that the cowl flaps have something to do with that.
I agree with Corsair Jock that the wing tips look really weird. Those rounded of tips don't work at all but like he said it would be a n easy fix.
I can see one of these [link=http://www.markstyling.com/F4U_1.htm]paint schemes[/link] on this plane.

I noticed they have Gregory 'Pappy' Boyington's LULUBELLE. that wasn't his mount,
it was made up for a photo-op. I think he (Gregory) said he didn't have a regular mount.
He used what was available. never-the-less, its a nice looking bird.

$180.00 shipping is a bit stiff. Yeah, I know it's big but still........[&o]

I got a quote of $250! So yea, not sure if I want to be the first on this one. One big question I have is how does the bottom look, if the center section is glass and the gear mounts are not done right this could be a big problem.

http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemId=759787 Now you don't have to strip, repaint, modify or say this doesn't look right. And I'm not the one selling this. it seems to me that the amount of "bashing" to make something you want, you can build it instead. Stepping off the soap box.

Id rather bash a ARF .. that looks like a messy basket cast...

you would have no idea my zero is a CMP 80 if you were to look at it.. and I payed 200 bucks...lol I think its faster to add scale features to a already built foundation. ill build a stick kit one day tho.. i want to build the Kellogg Avanger :D

it would be nice to bash this plane.. and it would have the Moki in it to....lol

I know a person that has had on of these . I think he was going to make new wing tips made from sheeted foam core

same, but for my CMP Bf109F, now a G-6. main goal is that nobody will reconize it as a cmp.
the above Corsair would lend itself nicely for a bash. there is ZERO things that could be done
to make there ET 190 and ET 109 look more realistic though. those two planes are horrid.

I don't want to get into the Ziroli Corsair thing again, but the ET Corsair is much better looking/more scale. And since that Ziroli is a glass fuselage building it more scale or to look as scale as the ET would be impossible. Stripping the ET Corsair down would be much easier than building a Ziroli anyway! Step 1. Trying to understanding the mind of a basher.
Step 2. Realizing you don't understand the mind of a basher.
Step 3. Why even reply if you don't understand the mind of a basher?
