I hear you. Me myself just finished a p47 wing this past summer that I have been slow building for over a year. I also have a hurricane wing that I really need to get done. Been at that about 3 years now. The wings are replacement for a CMPRO P47 , which I built the Nick Zaroli 71" to replace the original wing that I cracked up. Can't get CMPRO parts any more and the Hurricane, I'm not sure what designer the fuse is . My buddy got a set of 60size plans from the Sussex Air show in the 90s and enlarged it to 100" WS. He never got it to fly so I took the fuse and am trying a Sepp Uiberlacher enlarged hurricane wing on it. BTW Nick Zirolo also have a giant scale spitfire.

I also had an unusual color on my Pica Spitfire. It was the baby blue of the MKIX. I also need to rebuild that one. I started rebuilding an enlarged Tony Nijius and my bulk heads got lost and it was put to the side for more than 10 years now. Maybe one day I'll get back to it.

Yea one day . First I need to finish a Hostetler Lancair and the Hurricane wing and given I'm not in much of a building mood these past years, it will take a while.

From my dad's POV before he died. He taught me to fly rc.
"Finish what you start, even if you don't start what you finish."

Our time on this planet is but a flicker. If that plane was a bucket list project. You deserve to finish it. It's not about the plane. It's about you. You wanted that plane, flying, at one time. Fall on love with it again.
Every build my father did was a love affair..from the scratch built Lockheed Electra, to his Cessna, cubs, and his scale beechcraft. Those were his mistresses. Mom always said he was cheating on her in the basement or in the garage.
We build them and fly them because we love them. If that enjoyment does not exist..it's no longer a hobby..it's a chore.
When it becomes a chore, it's time to set down the glue, put the knives, saws and drills away, and walk away for a while. Breathe some air not full of fumes, and take a break.
I've been there..three planes on boards at various stages..two more waiting to go..feeling like I was buried in building and no time to enjoy the flying.
I stick to one plane at a time. Build it, fly it, enjoy it.

This hobby is supposed to be a relaxing, almost zen, way of shedding life's burdens. It's not supposed to create them.

Did u have trouble seeing it? I've posted thought it would be hard. I've heard silver planes can be tough because of sun reeflection too.

At the time no I didn`t. It was quite visible.

I am trying to build a Top-Flite Spitfire kit. The kit says flaps are optional. I would like to hear what people here think. Are flaps needed for the Spitfire?

Lifer 12-30-2021 04:23 PM

Yes.

I've flown the Hanger 9 Spitfire without flaps and they weren't needed. But, I've got a long runway, without trees at the ends. Personally I would've liked to have them, and they would look cool, but since I didn't need them I never took the time to install a servo and enable them. Not sure how the Top Flite flies. Mine is still on the board from around '03 ;)

elmshoot 01-01-2022 07:52 AM

70+ flights on my H9 Spitfire with a Saito 1.00 in the nose and I had flaps. They were effective but not needed.
This might be comparing apples to oranges with TF Spit but I think mine is bigger and lighter. YMMV

Starwolf2 01-01-2022 05:53 PM

Thanks to everyone that responded to my question about the flaps. I think that I will go ahead and build the kit with flaps.

FlyerInOKC 01-01-2022 06:16 PM

Par for the course is if you don't build them you will really need them at some point and if you do build them you won't need them. Belter to build and not need them to not than wish you had them when the bovine excrement hits the proverbial fan. ;)

I've put flaps in to many arf's and all my built planes. i presently have two planes without flaps, i would like flaps in both now. the original though process was they have glider airfoils so i wont need them, now its one of those todo's i may never get to.
