Phoenix Model 50CC Mustang - First Flights!!
1 Attachment(s)
Hi Guys,
Thought I would share some photos today of the new Phoenix Models 50cc Mustang which I purchased to have as a 'weekend warbird' one that I can fly without worry or a great deal of time been invested in building and detailing etc. Specs: Wingspan - 85.75" Length - 70.24" Dry Weight 9.7kgs I had 3 great flights this morning on the P51 and it flew great. The model tracks well in the sky and slows to a crawl for landing. Power is a DLE-55 spinning a 23 x 8 which will be changed to a 22 x 10. I needed a bit of down trim and a click of left aileron. Other than that it flies really well and is quite nimble in the air. The kit itself is amazing value and included retracts which with a bit of locktite and grease work wonderfully. It is pre hinged, servo tray/hatches pre assembled and a good sticker set to match as well as drop tanks. It comes with inner doors that are activated by the wheel retracting but I chose to leave these off and just use the door fairings. I also locked the tail wheel down and sealed the doors, I couldn't get the doors to properly close when the tail wheel was retracted and as I wanted this model as a weekend flyer the decision was made to fix it. The wings are a 2 piece wing that plug into the centre fuse so transport is easy. The elevators which house the servos for each elevator are also removable if need be with 2 bolts per side. Hardware pack is excellent with ball links on all surfaces. Top hatch comes off which is great for hiding switches, air fill etc. The stock cockpit in this is also pretty cool and just needs to be filled with a pilot now. My graphics were from Callie Graphics and came out great. I'm looking forward to putting in some more flights this weekend weather permitting!! Cheers Jeremy |

Hi Alf.
Looks great. I'm espically interested in how it went with the NGH38 up front. Cheers Grossy |
RE: Phoenix Model 50CC Mustang - First Flights!!
At the first startup and rund the engine worked well but lost all compression. Checked valves etc and all seems good. The engine still starts and works fine but very low on compression.
Will do some more flights before I can evaluate the engine. Approx 7100rpm with 18x8 |

thanks for the video.
|
RE: Phoenix Model 50CC Mustang - First Flights!!
It lands like a trainer unlike so many other p-51s. Or at least the pilot makes it so. Too bad they dont have em here in the states. :(
How much do they retail in $ |

ORIGINAL: F4u5 Looks similar to the aeroworks P-51 http://www.aero-works.net/store/detail.aspx?ID=379 This is a cheap, nice flying warbird for fun and it works. Solution setc on the AW is quite much more nice! And the pricedifference is also visible... |
RE: Phoenix Model 50CC Mustang - First Flights!!
Hey
just bought one today.. they go for about 580 AU. Just wondering what servos you used on the aircraft??
|
RE: Phoenix Model 50CC Mustang - First Flights!!
Just got one here from Duanes planes, AU$455. Looking at the tank hardware, did anybody change the stopper to a gas (brown) stopper or did you go with the supplied black one? How is it holding up?.
I will let you know how the build comes. I still have to finish my Hobby King 50cc Texan (the yellow one). |
RE: Phoenix Model 50CC Mustang - First Flights!!
Crashtruk,
Any observations/opinions on the HK Texan. I think it is a nice looking arf but would be interested in an opinion. Also, did you get the retracts? Any pictures? Thanks in advance! |
RE: Phoenix Model 50CC Mustang - First Flights!!
it looks like a sport type wing , which would make it fly more stable
|
RE: Phoenix Model 50CC Mustang - First Flights!!
Dont use the black stopper with petrol. Use a brown one.
I was eyeing the Mustang off at Duanes. Top price. Let me know if you need a stopper or bits and pieces for the petrol set up. Cheers Grossy |
RE: Phoenix Model 50CC Mustang - First Flights!!
Hey Grossy. I will use a brown stopper, I have one in my stock pile, looks like the Top Flite stang will have to wait (again) Still have the DL you sold me, best engine ever runs like a charm.

RE: Phoenix Model 50CC Mustang - First Flights!!
The HK Texan is not a ARF it's a AARF (almost, almost ready to fly) I will post some shots this coming week. The retracts a terrible...but cheap. They will work but need alot of rework. They leak like the Pentagon and need strengthening and re-aligning. Should have her flying soon.
