Hangar 9 Mustang 150

Just wondering if anyone has taken a close look at the re-released version (current) of the Hangar 9 P-51D 150. I was thinking about a G-38 for power but from the manual, it looks like it might be a tight fit. Anyone have any experience with this or a similar set up?

Thanks,

Tony

I squeezed an Evolution 35 cc in mine and had to do a lot of surgery to do so. If I did it again, I would use a DLE 30 and a Jtech pitts muffler.

Nice plane. Too bad they raised the price so much.

Thanks for your input. A DLE-30 is my second choice only because I have an idle G-38. Guess I can find another use for it and go with the DLE engine.

Here is a build question, did people use the CA hinges? If you did how many years have you been flying with it? I am slightly worried how the ca hinges would hold up so thinking of pin hinge.

I have several planes with the c/a hinges, but I add hinges between the ones already there, and seal top and bottom with clear Ultarcoat. I have planes more than a decade old with this setup.

Hello Group

Does any one here have a extra set of bombs that they will sell? I can't find them anywhere.

Thanks Jim

Hi guys. Just finishing my Mustang. Its the new release with a OS GBX1.This is my second one so it went together pretty quick. I found with my old one that when I opened up the cowl intake a bit the head temp dropped 100 degrees to around 200. Really like flying this plane. I have a extra set of bombs Jim if you are still looking. Pete

Hey guys I bought this plane from a fellow flyer that is not going to build it. I have an ESM 30cc Corsair and FW-190. Both are nice but heavy. From the guys that have built and flown this mustang. How does it fly and is the 15-17 pound weight realistic? I am going with the dle 35ra and have hitec 5625 all around. Just looking for what I have got myself into. Lol.

skillet92,

Can you post pictures of the engine install when you get to that point? I am considering the same package. I had the same plane with an EVO 35cc and it was great, but had a short life due to an error on my part.

Thanks!

Lifer I will do that. From the measurements that I took it looks like the 35 will fit perfect front to back and side to side. And from the one I saw fly on an evolution 26 it will have plenty of power.

Bad news for me. Found out that I blew O.S 1.60 2 stroke engine on my World Models Mustang a few weeks ago in flight. I thought that there was a problem with my fuel system causing the engine to stop after about 4.5 minutes. I was able to dead stick the landing with no problems. Now looking at replacing the O.S 1.60 with a DLE 35RA engine. Should be a bump up in power as well.

skillet92,

I know you may only consider this a partially valid review since I work for Horizon, but I got one of these last year for my own enjoyment, and I really love the airplane. I used an engine that's on the heavy size and my airplane weighs 16.5 lb. The closest comparison I can make for handling qualities is that it flies like a ParkZone airplane, meaning very light, very stable and predictable. With the flaps all the way down she slows down so nicely for landing with no fear of tip stalling whatsoever. Just drive her on down and relax the elevator when the mains touch for a pretty wheel landing. I can't wait for the weather to get better so I can get her back out to the field.

I changed the trim scheme on mine to Glamorous Glen III, but I don't have all the decals on yet.

Thank you for the post. I have seen videos of this plane and heard from guys that have seen it fly and they all say it flies light. My ESM corsair has a 74 inch wing but came in well over 19 pounds and it flys great to me, just keep power till almost touchdown. So I felt if the h9 mustang could come in at it advertised weight I would be great. One question I would love to ask is on my first ESM mustang that I had, I angled the gear forward to help with it nosing over on takeoff and landing. Do I need to do that with this one or does it have a bad nose over tendency?

I have this bird also and love it. I install the Robart Electric retracts. I converted it to 12s Lipo using the Rimfire 50cc. I can get 125MPH in level flight using the APC prop. I get about 6 mins of time out of the Batteries if I am ripping the prop on the flybys and about 8 mins if I am just cruising it around. I bought the TruTurn spinner for also.

I am flying it with the Spektrum on board telemetry with the gps that shows the alt and ground speed along with rx voltage and motor battery voltage.

I have this same set up in my Hanger 9 p-47 150 Razor back. I am using the air retracts in it.

Here is a video of the Jug. I haven't had a chance to video the P-51 yet.

Here is a picture just after I flew the first time. I have add the bombs and decals. Also the crappy spinner that comes with the kit is on it in this picture.

Jeff...

Thanks for the post. I am considering one of these with an electric setup as well and would very much like to see some photos of your battery hatch and learn of any other modifications you had to make.

Also, are the Robart electric retracts you mentioned the set for the Top Flite giant scale P-51, or are they a different set?

Thanks!

Curt

Curt,

I will try to get some pictures of the hatch tomorrow. One of the guys in the club did it for me. He did a awesome job cutting it along the color lines. I have the Robart retracts that are a drop in for the Hanger 9 P-51 150. I was a little worried because there are so new there were not any pictures on the web site.

http://www.robart.com/products/hanga...ctric-retracts

They have the controll box. I am using a 1.7MAH 2s lipo and never needs recharging it seems like.

I did open up the wheel wells and added the 4" Robart wheels.

Curt,

Here are some picutures of the work. I made a release that I ran a pull rod back under the tail just infront of the tailwheel. you can see the latch from the picture when the wing is off. The small Lipo runs the retracts. The tray hold 2 5800MAH 6s batteries.
