Hanger 9 60 size ME109F- FINALLY!!!

http://www.horizonhobby.com/products...60-arf-HAN2785

That tail wheel and location has got to go!
Other then that its not bad for a Hanger 9 version. I am so glad that they finally are producing a axis ww2 warbird!
I think there's a big market for a 60 size warbird for those of us that can't afford large scale!!
Like to know if it'll be at the AMA show this weekend??

Also if its like any of the other H9 warbirds this one should fly very well!!
Good going H9!! I'll be getting this one as well!

Man, I got excited when I saw this thread. I hought it would be giant scale.

There's already 109s available in this size.

I wanted one big enough for IMAA & more importantly big enough to house my Saito 200Ti in the cowl W/O cutting.

Really? Already ARF 109's in this size? I think not. H9's offering is 64" .60 size.
Kyosho had a 50 size at roughly 56" wingpsan.
VQ had a dismal looking .46 size
ESM has a 73" and an 87"
BH has a 50cc size.
There is nothing in the 60 size for 109's until the H9 hits the market

Your saito 200TI might be enough to fly the Blackhorse plane, but not the 50cc size ESM 87". The BH 55cc size is 86", but stated weight is 18.5 pounds. The ESM will be much higher weight...more like 25 pounds.

I for one will be getting this H9 me109. I have 2 of the ESM 73", 1 CMP 73", an old kyosho 56" and one UK kit built of unknown name.

BTW...horizon rep in the rcgroups thread stated the plane should be in stores mid Feb. He said its already left the manufacturing plant.

Also....its an F2, not a G version

One of my favorite airframes and a very tempting offering from H9. It seems about $50 high being it doesn't come with mechanical retracts like all the other 60 size warbirds they have. Maybe they should include the spinner they list on their parts page. Also, after looking at the pictures, I'm assuming that the covering is a custom pannel lined Ultracote like they used on the blue nose P-51. Great in principal, but realistically any repairs are just a PITA, especially as the colors they used don't seem to be part of the standard Ultracote lineup. Still looking forward to seeing it at Toledo this year, maybe sooner if they actually ship some to my local hobby shop. Oh and yes, the tail wheel looks horrible.

Have fun with the ground handling. The narrow gear makes it rerally tough. Better get wing tip skids before that first flight. I have had several of these type models and can tell you from first hand experience. Crosswind landings will be a nightmare. Have fun and good luck.

Looks like they did a respectable job with the scale outline.
There's yet another plane to add to my hangar!

I'll bet you could shoehorn that 200Ti into the CMP 73" ARF. The performance would be SWEET! The first one I had was pulled around by a Saito 150fs, the second by a 26cc gasser. If I ever did another one it'd be with the 200Ti.

Wish I'd never sold my CMPro 109G, it was an amazing ARF. Just guess i'll have to wait and see what the pricing is on this one when it arrived down under.

Thanks

Wow, was I surprised! Just came back from the AMA show in Ontario,Ca and low and behold at the Horizon booth was the new Hangar9 Me-109F!!! I had no idea that after all these years of people asking for this that they actually did it. According to the event staff, the first batch is currently "on the water" or in route to the port. Can't wait to see what people do with this one.

Just for the note; it is a BF-109, not an ME-109.

Just for the note......ME-109 is just as correct as BF-109. Records by the RLM have BOTH designations, and often in the same paragraph. This has been a long heated debate, but in the end, whats in the RLM documents is what matters and both are used. BF was the intial designation due to the plane design being submitted via the company Bayerische Flugzeugwerke because Willy Messerschmitt wasnt exactly held in high regard by the RLM minister at the time. However, the company was renamed Messerschmitt AG after 11 July 1938 when Erhard Milch finally allowed Willy Messerschmitt to reacquire the company.

Hence forth, all new planes manufacturered carried the ME designation except those that had already been built. So there were both BF-109s and ME-109s side by side on the flightlines.
The 109 still had BF-109 stamped on the identication plates in many instances, but many also had me-109. Documents by RLM, Messerschmitt AG, and the Luftwaffe refered to the plane using both designations in most instances, such as strength and loss reports, etc.
A lot of planes re-fitted by Erla Flugzeugwerke carried the ME-109 stamping.

Glad to see they've added flaps to this 60 Size warbird! H9 has previously stayed away from flaps on the 60 warbirds.

The spitfire has them as does the bluenose p-51

RE: Hanger 9 60 size ME109F- FINALLY!!!

Bf vs Me........kahloq is quite correct, there was no difference in the designations as far as the Luftwaffe was concerned. I just called it a "Me" out of habit, but John Redman is also quite right that Hangar9 is calling theirs a Bf.

RE: Hanger 9 60 size ME109F- FINALLY!!!

Most of the pilots at the time would refer to what we phoenitcally call an "Emm Eee One Oh Nine" at "Meh hundert neun", so obviously both designations were used conversationally as well.

RE: Hanger 9 60 size ME109F- FINALLY!!!

Quite interesting on the designations given. All documentation I have for the BF has the big round spinner and the ME has the much smaller pointed spinner. Have never read the notes posted on the links in any of the books i have. Not a huge 109 fan personally. Either way I hope it sells.

You got me there Kahlog :). I was thinking of the P39, The Miss Marie P51, P47, Hellcat and the two Corsairs that they released.

RE: Hanger 9 60 size ME109F- FINALLY!!!

The differences between models of the full scale aircraft are not related to the Me vs Bf designation, but rather the model designation. The airframe underwent significant design changes after the "E" model and the F, G, H, and K got the large bulbous spinners while the earlier models had the conical ones.

kahloq 01-14-2013 02:55 PM

RE: Hanger 9 60 size ME109F- FINALLY!!!

Spitfire1999 is correct. There could be a 109E sitting next to a 109G and both could have the ME-109 on the identification plate...or...both could have the BF-109.....or the E could have the BF and the G have the ME and vice versa. It just depends on where it was built, the month it was built.....and even if/where it might be retrofitted. Being retrofitted was not the cause of an ID plate change...it just is some places used me-109 and others used bf-109 or even the same factory at a different month/year.

Additionally, there could be two 109E's(or plug in whatever variant you want) where one has the me-109 and the other has the bf-109 ID plate sitting right next to eachother as long as it was produced after july 11th 1938

RE: Hanger 9 60 size ME109F- FINALLY!!!

Your so right!! My uncle flew the ME109 in the war and up until he died last December 2011, would always call her "Meh hundert neun" as did other German pilots.
But lets keep this thread going in regards to the Hanger 9 version etc.

RE: Hanger 9 60 size ME109F- FINALLY!!!

I can't wait to see somebody else taxi theirs around.

The original killed a bunch of pilots. The gear problems are well documented.

It seems those problems increase when the sucker is operated off paved runways. Apparently they are worse off pavement. That didn't show up so much in WWII cause most fields back then weren't paved. And it was just worse, not impossible.

I love the airplane. Have had a couple of models of it. Not one had scale gear, but did have narrow track and they were a terror on the ground.

RE: Hanger 9 60 size ME109F- FINALLY!!!

David Payne and I want to build a couple for Power 60 and use the new AR635 receiver. We haven't worked out all the connections yet. It's going to be interesting since flaps require 4 mini servos. But we're confident we can make it work. We have tested the AR635 in the ParkZone Bf-109 and it became a new airplane.
