TF P47 Engine Selection Question
Hi All-
I've searched through the various TF Gold Edition P47 threads and really haven't seen much about engine selection. First, let me say that I will be going gas and not glow. I have seen a few comments about using a DLE 20 and a few others about a Zenoah G26. My questions are: I would like to go with a G26, magnetobut it does not look like it will fit in the cowl without major surgery. Has anyone done this? And how did it fit? I am using a Fiberglass Specialties cowl. I personally do not care for a DLE 20, would prefer a DLE 30 but that sounds like too much power. Does the DLE 20 fit OK? Any significant cutting required? Any other thoughts or suggestions on the gas side? Thanks- Larry |

Have you seen the New Evolution gas engine? http://www.evolutionengines.com/GasEngines/Default.aspx

RE: TF P47 Engine Selection Question
The DLE 30 is not too much power, at least not for me. :D This airframe is very sturdy and builds a little heavier compared to the other GE birds like say the Corsair. You'll need a wrap around Pitts if you don't want to cut the cowl. Another good choice might be the new beam mount RCGF 26.

RE: TF P47 Engine Selection Question
Can you get a DLE 30 in this cowl without messing it uphaven't checked the dimensions, but I believe the cowl is about 7 inches across.
Alsowho is now selling the RCGF engines? Larry |
RE: TF P47 Engine Selection Question
Not with the stock muffler. A wrap around Pitts would work perfectly. I you do use the 30, please make sure to reinforce the firewall with wood and glass.

RE: TF P47 Engine Selection Question
I have the DLE 30 for my ESM FW190 its a big engine for a gold edition P-47 the 20 would be a fine choice mine has a OS 120 surpass and the engine fits perfectly in the cowl, I am considering switching to the 20 for this plane

RE: TF P47 Engine Selection Question
I will admit, I tend to stuff 10 pounds of dirt in a 5 pound bag when it comes to putting engines on my planes. Sometimes it works really well, sometimes it doesn't. :) My completely subjective opinion is that this airframe response really well to being overpowered. It also looks really cool with a 15.5 X 12 APC four blade out front. :D

RE: TF P47 Engine Selection Question
which pits muffler is that I have seen the single stack mufflers but not the double for the 20.
my DLE 30 has a pits muffler from Valley View RC with the double pipes they make a nice looking custom muffler for the 30 engine. |
RE: TF P47 Engine Selection Question
Phakur, RCGF is distributed by BP Hobbies.

RE: TF P47 Engine Selection Question
Phakur, I put a DLE 20 in mine after I put a OS 4 stroke in it. I was bummed that I didn't just get the DLE first, the DLE fit better and I would have had less and smaller holes in my cowl. Once I get my engine back from hobbico I will post pictures if you want but it does fit nicely inside the cowl and you could probably use a piece of flex pipe to route the exhaust out the bottom back part of the cowl. I didn't get the flex pipe yet because I wanted to get the engine in and get the plane up in the air a few times. once I do that I will get some flex pipe and route the exhaust that way.
