Thanks for the info. I will try different size props, and see which one gives me the best performance

Here are some pictures of the first session of flights. Very nice plane, which flies beautifully, and what a noise the Four-Stroke TP-70! .... Much nicer than the acute sound of two stroke!!

Superb and clean installation. Would like to see pictures of your engine installation without cowl.

Looks Great!, Any video? I'd like to hear it.

On a couple of occasions, the front bolt, which sits deeper in the leading edge of wing, has dropped into the cavity or on the grass. Unscrewing and retrieving it is an art form. So I have come up with this simple solution. Just use 5/32 ID Tygon tube and push on to bolt head and then cut to size so it just sits flush with wing surface. Really works well when you are at the field in the wind kneeling over the wing with the sunshine shadowing the hole.

Standard hex worked for me too, but thats a good idea too!

Flight Vid
Quick vid of a flight tonight. Loving the way she is flying! No major issues to report so far with about 15 flights. I pieced together another kit for a great price on eBay and would love to do a clipped wing Reno version with a DA 85 or similar. Has anyone attempted this yet? Maybe i'll just keep it for a spare lol.

That would be cool, please don't give me ideas like that, I have an 85 sitting in a box....
|
Hah, well if it's just sitting there.........

150mph? Do you have a vid? I'm assuming that's down hill.
|
|
Wow, it is hauling. 12s? What did you use for recording speed?
|
Yup 12s eflite power 360 with cc 160 speed controller with 10,000 mah 4 6s 5000. I have a radar gun we use
|
Impressive. What kind of prop are you running? Da-60 with 24x10 is like 105-110 straight and level. Trying to figure out how on earth your getting 40mph faster. Lol. Even on a big down line, we're seeing high 130s
|
I'm running a ground adjustable 4 blade 23" diameter and the prop is set at 22" of pitch. The amp draw is 150 amps at that setting. At that setting im making over 7000 watts (8.9 hp) more power than a da85 (8.5hp)
|
You are holding that DA 60 back with that propeller size. You are going to need more pitch for higher level flight speeds. The DA is a reed valve engine so will not produce usable power at higher RPMs like a rear rotor (ZDZ) or a piston port engine. Those 2 types will continue to increase HP as you get them to wind higher. Reed valve engines work best if you lug the RPMs down with higher pitch. I use Graupner 22-12 2 blades (130 mph level speed) and a 4 blade Varioprop (pitch set at 18 inches) to get much higher speeds (my electric P 51B).
If you can hear the prop bark (rip), thats your top speed. Increase pitch and the bark will stop and the plane flies faster assuming your streamlining is clean. |
Just on the edge of a prop rip. vertical is almost unlimited. Not seeking top speed, just overall great performance. Interesting about the engine types. Thanks for the info!

Any of the Florida or S. Georgia guys have any plans for Model Aviation Day?
We have a fly-in up here in Glen St Mary (ShadeTree RC) and would love to get some Mustangs together. |
I might be able to make it, my H9 Mustang is in the test flight phase now, and My TF B model is ready, and TF p 47 Razorback electric is also in test flight.
|
That would be awesome, its not too far from where 75 meets 10, maybe 20 minutes or less east on I 10 of that interchange

i plan on doing this when I buy my next kit soon. But still using the power 360 setup. Stock one went 150mph the "reno " version should go faster. I plan on making some glass parts to add the race canopy and maybe the belly scoop delete option
