The "Dream Warbird"
 

I like to put these out to gather ideas. Presently, we own a TF GS Zero, P-47 and CARF Spit. Just sold a TF GS P-51 which was a really good plane too. It seems every warbird we build has some issues that aren't insurmountable, but an annoyance. Just curious what ideas you all can come up with as far as the perfect warbird. No flames or complaints, just what you think would be a good plane. I'll start off with a few wishes I'd like.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

1. Top Flite and the CARF have a solid wing (CARF is actually two piece that, after being put together, bolts to the bottom of the fuselage much like the TF)
Would like something that sits on its wheels during transport and doesn't require a special cradle to carry it around (much like the HH) Plug in outer wing panels
2. Composite finished in the mold paint job that's durable. Tired of the Monokote wrinkling every time it sees a big temperature flux. Doesn't blow up when stressed hard via G's or high speed
3. A giant scale engine that doesn't shake the plane apart. Love the DA 85 but when they say it's a "big banger", they mean it. Lots of wear and tear on the plane. Smooth running, reliable, relatively inexpensive and easy maintenance. The DA 50 is a great engine but I'm thinking a bigger sized airframe.
4. Draws a lot of attention when being flown, easy to fly/land/takeoff. Sorry but I'd like some heavy metal not to get flamed by the Cub/L-4 pilots out there.
5. Easy to get parts and repair. Add on parts like the landing gear doesn't bend when you look at it wrong or hard to get parts for, if you know what I mean.

Consider this a fun exercise, not a complaint box. Any ideas out there?

Maybe this will narrow it down a bit:
Finish:
You're looking at either composite or sheeted wood frame, fiberglassed and painted. So high bucks/high build coefficient there.

Gear:
Custom gear are the best! High dollar though. Gear position on a plug in wing design requires more narrow gear, i.e. Spits, 109s, possibly rotators like Hellcat or P-40. Wide gear means tends to be better ground handling and stability upon landing, a BIG plus!

Fight:
Big wings do better, P-47, maybe dive bombers like TBM, Val, etc.

I honestly dont think ANY of them are ideal models like you're wanting! Lesser of two weevils in this case.

HH did the plug in wing/gear problem and they did it on a P-51 and Corsair

Sounds like you need a P-38. Wing plug in, two 50cc engines, draws lots of attention, but you are going to have to build it.

1/4 TA152H

147" Span, big flaps, long tail moment, wide gear stance.

85-250cc engines fit (larger sizes being radials)
3 piece wing so it transports sitting on all three gear. 20 minutes for field assembly
All composite, fully detailed
custom CNC machined 100% scale retractable landing gear system utilizing aircraft grade aluminum and titanium materials
Only 3 in the world in this size and all composite (For now) so its a rarity
Made in the USA with quality materials By me one at a time so each one has to meet my quality requirements.

Cons:
It aint cheap!

I must not drool, i must not drool, i mus DAMN, right down my chin, Superb Ta152s, love to see one finished, i have the kyosho one, and a meinster FW190 d9 in kit form, this bird would be the ultimate!

Those wings are huge! I know it was a high altitude variant but I bet it was a booger to land.

The 1/5 scales come in around 30lbs and can thermal on a warm day.. The plus size is the flaps are HUGE, 4" in chord and 48" in span, each!. Those deflected 60* should provide plenty of lift dump for easy landings. Im hoping the prototype will be flying by March/April of next year. The hold up currently is im waiting on the landing gear from my machinist.

Yes Went over to France to pic her up,, she is one of few made,, all full comp and very well done,full rivet detail,,
The Dora is 1/3 scale with a span of 3.7meter and a length of 3.6 meter,,so she is a big bird.

a dream warbird??: nothing is perfect but these two will satisfy the most demanding scale pilots: Fliteskin Ta152 in 1/5 scale, affordable, flies like a trainer and you will be the center of attention at the field:

Yes there is plenty of room in this one,,the Cowl Diameter 380mm so will take a wide range of engines,,engine size would have to start at 350cc and up ,,so on the look out for a big lump for her.

Looking forward in starting the build,,have not done a thread on here for a while,,so if enough interest I will,, I have a page over on FB for tigermodels ,, will be posting up there for now..
