Love it or hate it? I'm helping my buddy finish it up. He and I absolutely love the scheme, so far, we're in the minority!

I love this paint scheme. Can't wait to fly it. Tell us what you think!

Chris Nicastro 07-11-2016 08:21 PM

Looks cool to me!
Maybe it's the camera angle but the only part that looks a little off to me is the yellow stripe just behind the canopy the way it bends down to the stab. Otherwise looks pretty trick!

raptureboy 07-12-2016 10:06 AM

Very cool, bet there's not another one like it.

Would love to see a video of the Maiden flight!!!!!!!

540chevelle 07-13-2016 06:56 AM

We plan on the Maiden flight last weekend in July. If we get video I will try and put it up.

aghost 07-14-2016 04:29 AM

Like the paint scheme. Good luck with the maiden.

Erich 07-15-2016 06:17 AM

Hi,

really great extraordinary Finishing. Best for your Maiden.

Question, where did you get your retract?

cu,

erich

540chevelle 07-15-2016 01:21 PM

They are from Germany. They are very close to being as perfect as you can get.

Erich 07-15-2016 11:36 PM

Hi, thats interesting. Could you Tell me the name of the producer, please that would be great.

thanx.

cu,

erich

The gear came with the plane when Mike got it. We did some checking around and we found they were made there.
I don't think they were mass produced. There are a few people that know what they are here on RCU. They are air operated.
They have two pistons per gear. After we got them all set up and aligned they seem to work well. We will have to see if they work in the air:)

Erich 07-16-2016 01:44 PM

Hi,
thanks for your reply. How did you buy the kit, directly from 3W or through a distributor?

cu,

erich

540chevelle 07-17-2016 07:51 AM

Mike bought it used. It was started but never finished. I finished it and painted it. Now all that is left is to fly it.
I think it was from Texas.

Really nice looking airplane. I think the paint scheme is awesome. Nice work.

Greg Wright 08-01-2016 03:20 AM

Mark,
The Bearcat looked great in the air!!!!!!!!!!!!

:cool::cool:

540chevelle 08-01-2016 06:25 AM

The Bearcat flew awesome no trim needed. It took off nice. When I was setting up for landing I let the gear come down. Then I made the flap pass.
As soon as I dropped them it rolled over. Lucky I was up high enough to recover. So I landed it with no flaps.
It turned out the servo was stripped on the left flap. JR 8611. So I will put in JR 8711 on all the wing surfaces.

Pretty awesome plane in person! I was able to meet up with the Warbird Guys from the Seattle area catch the last few flights of the day. This Cat has a very smooth growl and flies smoothly.
The gear let it down though on the landing when the cast leg on the right gear broke from fatigue. Luckily the landing was smooth, the recovery off the runway was pretty uneventful and the prop was spared any damage.
Theres a pin that goes thru the strut and it was the hole for the pin that appears to be the point of origin for the failure. If it had been a billet machined strut it wouldn't have failed.

Very cool Bearcat, it will fly again!
Nice meeting all you guys!

540chevelle 10-04-2016 06:46 AM

Nice meeting you as well Chris. I already have the lower strut being machined out of billet aluminum. That should solve this problem.
It was a great weekend at the Red Apple fliers field. The place is awesome.
I am wondering what RPMs people are getting out of the moki 250 with a 4 blade prop.

Ram-bro 10-07-2016 11:01 AM

Nothing wrong with being in tte minority. Been one all my life. Looks liye your leaving the world of 'Blue Privelege'(navy blue) and striking out on your own. I think its unique

I'm running my 4 blade solo prop set at 15 degrees of pitch and it's turning at almost 3600 rpm's on the ground. It's probably unloading to around 4400 in the air. I have my Moki 250 in a CARF P-47 and it flys really well at these settings.

marksp 10-08-2016 06:08 AM

@Greg - what is the blade length on your Solo prop?

Here are the details for the SEP setup on Jon's Bearcat http://www.heilemann-sternmotoren.de...nd-s250-7-info

Greg Wright 10-08-2016 09:18 PM

Mark,
My solo prop is A 30 inch diameter 4 blade using the solo wood blades.

Chris Nicastro 10-08-2016 10:13 PM

Probably the best looking and adjustable prop is from Vario Prop.

http://www.ramoser.de/home_e/variopr...rioprop_e.html

the 32 is designed for big radials. I've used a few of the smaller units and their quality is outstanding. This would be my choice if I still had my Moki 250
