Looking good! Can you still make & install the inner gear doors, without too much hassle? & Are you putting wheel well liners in? My Hellcat doesn't have any installed, so maybe I will have some mods to make with the retract setup...as mine
are hang out just a smidge?? at wheel mounting are- yours turned out awesome so far

n8622t 07-17-2017 10:41 AM

Hey Bob the inner doors were added since I decided not to add the wheel well bays. I decided against the bays because it will make installing the wings much easier. You shouldn't need any liners on your plane since the bays are in the wing....I'd just seal them with some finishing resin then paint them green and not worry about covering the wheel bay with any more than basic strut covers

Have ya'll noticed that Horizon Hobby has a "No Longer Available" alert on the Evolution 160 gas radial web page (https://www.horizonhobby.com/product...gine-evoe7160). This leads me to believe the engine has been discontinued by HH, but they are still selling the Evolution 260 gas radial engine. I noticed that Chief Aircraft is still selling the radial 160.

I wonder if there is an inherent problem with the 160 which has caused HH to discontinue selling it? I was actually thinking about putting the 160 radial on a PT-17 build, but not anymore.

BTW, nice build Jimmy, thanks for sharing!

Sonny

Thanks Sonny..... here's my first 160 mounted on the World Models PT-17 Stearman it's been a wonderful engine

n8622t 07-19-2017 05:14 PM

I know of three Evolution 160 radials flying. The engines all run the same with zero issues and they are all three mounted on the world models PT-17 stearman I saw that discontinued listing on the HH site.....very disappointing

Those are some awesome mods warbird!!! I'll get on the tailwheel and gear door hook up tomorrow and post a pic for you. I like the upgrade on the guns too. When you have the time I'd like to hear your ideas you used on the canopy. Keep up the good work....

Jimmy,
You got a incredible job, well done. Do you have brocken in the Evolution radial motor?
My canopy opening system is fonctionnal, and simple to make. The closing way is made with magnets. I can post you new pictures about the slidding system, but you must wait 14 days, i am curently in holidays...

Here another pictures on my La-7 progress:

Working on cowl detail next

warbird04 08-02-2017 12:32 AM

Take special care to the hot exhaust cooling air! It is a big problem with the La-7, there are nothing to make escape hot air from the coling... and the 2 openig for the side exhaust are not enought...
Can anybody explain how the full size La-7 motor cooling work?

That's a good point Warbird....I plan on opening the bottom of the cowl to allow the hot air to move away from the engine. I'll post a pic for you when I get back into the shop.
Hows your build going? Are you still on holiday?

n8622t 08-02-2017 09:01 AM

I believe that the La7 used a cooling radiator which was located on the belly inside an air scoop. I'll have to read my book again to see if that's correct

moparbob498 08-02-2017 03:53 PM

That's coming along beautifully, & looks like you did take a bit more off when opening up the cowl? Look as though you did? Looks great , I'm liking this. Thank you for sharing

Ok I didn't like the clearance on the rockers of two cylinders inside the cowl so I plugged the bolts hole and started over using a different method
