VQ f-82 Twin Mustang CG
 

Does anyone know for sure what the CG is on the VQ F-82 Twin Mustang?
The directions say 3 5/64 ( 95 mm) back from the leading edge. Others say 5 inches back from the leading edge. Quite a difference.

I have a P-82 Mustang I believe came from VQ ARF. Wing span is 70.6 inch and fuselage is 47 inch. Manual on last page gives C.G. as 80mm or 3.15 inch behind leading edge, measured at where wing meets the fuselage. My twin mustang flies well at this setting. DO NOT go 5 inches back as this would give you a very tail heavy plane. Start at 3 3/16 inch and fly plane and check how she flies and adjust C.G. by 1/4 inch at a time to get plane to fly the way you want. Remember nose heavy planes fly, not to well, but tail heavy planes are uncontrollable and flight will end badly very quickly. I hope this helps you out and good luck with your twin engine plane. Thanks Ken. I felt that 5 inches back was a bit much. I will start the recommended 3 5/64 inches and work from there. By the way, mine has an 81 inch wingspan and the fuselages are 49 inches long cowel to back of the rudder.

An old thread I know... but recently acquired a VQ F-82 (81" wingspan) I am just about ready to fly - and was wondering where you landed on CG Steve??
As you stated, the instructions say 3 5/64" or 95-98mm... Unfortunately those aren't equal... (3 5/64 is 78mm... 3 3/4 is 95mm)
My balance is very close to 95-98mm, but want to be sure that isn't too far back for a first flight... and don't want to add unnecessary weight.

Mine is balanced at the rearmost point and lands softly. I did reduce the elevator throw to the lowest recommended point.

I also reached out to VQ and got this reply:
So appears I am close to where I need to be... certainly don't have to come forward to 78mm...
