I see they limit the number of pictures to 25 versus my other sites that have no limits. Well, so much for this site being user friendly: getting errors on uploading the remaining pictures. Loads 15%, stops and then says issue loading picture. Local club meeting. So far, 4 events have been cancelled from May to June. Nothing, yet, for July. At this rate the 20, or so, meets a year will be reduced to just a hand full. One positive is, so far, I'll save about 2000 miles of traveling! Got a couple flights in on my TF F4U. Got there around 6 PM and, after the meeting, pilots flew until around 8:30. web site failed to post pictures. Saved the print and, then, edited the post and pictures were uploaded. My other club's meeting is Thursday but it's suppose to rain that day. Fortunately, I had a plane charged and 'ready to go'. He brought his 190 and I brought my F6F and we did three formation flying flights. My Robart air compressor's batteries are shot so I took it apart for possible battery replacement. The plastic ends are force fitted into the center metal tube. Had to un-solder some wires from circuit board to plastic end to remove internal assembly. Looks like Battery plus should be able to install new ones. I bought a larger version (more power) on ebay as my primary air compressor. The new one is a little longer as well as a little larger in diameter. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...d74f225687.jpg Last Fall my Ziroli SBD dauntless GT-80 lost about 300 RPM's and then would not start. Put the magneto sensor from a G-62 and the engine started so I put the old one back on and it started but ran badly (maybe a bad connection on the connector). Rebuilt the carb and all's 'good'. June 20: Father's day flyin at Clinton RC club in Wilmington, Ohio
Miles: 45 This is only the 2nd flyin that's not been cancelled in my 'neck of the woods'. A very nice full size runway with the grass cut very short for the models. I wasn't sure how many would show up but a very good attendance: I'm guessing around 40 pilots. Plus they had food. Got a double cheese burger: ahhhh. July 18: general flyin at FAST club in Brookville, Ohio.
Miles: 60 A very nice 600' all grass runway. Grass must be no more that 1.5" high. Located in the middle of a farmer's field. Been there for 30 years. Grass was in excellent condition: they said they have it professionally treated twice a year. A very hot day at 95 degrees. Really didn't notice it at the field but by 4 pm at home, I did while unpacking! This week, normally I would be at a multi day flying but it was cancelled so I'm going to 'one day' flyins at fields that I have never been too in the past. July 25, Big Bird flyin at FAST in Lima, Ohio.
Miles: 114 A very nice all grass around 800' long. A good turnout of pilots. I think around 30. For 5 bucks they ordered pizza and everyone got a half a pizza plus a beverage. Mid 80's with almost no wind and blue skies. Went to one of my local club's fields, today, to get a few flights in and to check the repaving of the runway.
In the low 90's today but, fortunately, we have shade trees behind the pit area. I believe cost was around 16K. Members were asked to donate $100 so we wouldn't 'break the bank' (Everything was voluntary). We raised most of it and got another 3K from AMA for improvements. Since it is new pavement, the transition to grass is pretty good. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...53242b3ff8.jpg Care needs to be taken on the new pavement as there is about a 3" rise from grass to pavement. I took off on the grass and killed the engine on the grass, after landing, and just pulled my plane over the new pavement. Pavement to grass movement is OK but not vise versa.
