Moki 210

I need some info on the MOKI 2.10 for a TF GS P51 ARf.I know it hase enough muscle to fly this plane, but what about landing speeds, prop BRAKING and so on.Does the motor and prop combination slow the plane down enough??? Does any one have a fuel formula[glow]??? I really don't want to go with gas!!.What muffler will fit the TF mustang.Need help!!

RE: Moki 210

I can help with the fuel.
I use No nitro fuel. Moki recomends 20% oil, castor.
I use 15% oil on well broken in Moki motors. My oil is 80/20 with the 20% castor.
Other people will have a different opinion some will only use castor and the full 20%.

The Moki likes the Menz 20X10 prop. When broken in you should see around 7500 rpm top end on this prop with an idle of around 1900 rpm. You could also try a 22X8 prop for a larger surfice area.

hope this helps some.

Thanks Tony for the info on the formula.Where do you get your methenal from and about how much a gal does it run?? Do you use Klotz oil or what? Also, do you have any idea what muffler will fit in this TF P51??

I'm putting a Moki 2.10 in my Pica 1/5th P-40. She's going to have a three blade prop too.

I was thinking of the Moki as well. Are you certain that it will have enough to power this plane. I think that it will be in the 20-22 pound range with this engine.
Thanks.

Prop Wash;
I get my fuel from Coopers Custom Blended. He makes a Moki blend at any oil content you want. e-mail is: [email protected]. Phone # is (616) 420-1539.

I order my fuel about 8 cases at a time. I can't remember the exact cost because I also ordered some 15% with it. My best gess is around $8.50 a gallion. About 1/2 the price of Hobby store fuel cost for the 15%. I think the 15% may have been around $12 a gallon.

The Moki 2.10 has plenty of power for a 20-22 lbs airplane. Should be a great combo.

Thanks Flak, for the price and power I am really looking to buy this motor[engine] ,like I said I like glow engines, though they are money hi to operate.Way back in the late 60s and early 70s we used to mix our own fuel and put banana oil for idle and it smelled great.I still have to decide on a muffler to fit in this TF51 arf.

Brylee,at 10,000 rpms and 5 pnds of horse power I think it is plenty. And I fits in the cowling.Yes I would like to have a G62 orZDZ 60 but the g62 takes up too much of the cowling.Thats a big head, plus muffler. I've watched the G62s and Moki's fly war birds the same size plane same and I have to go with the Moki for cost and so on..I just need info on what muffler now. Thanks

I use a Slimline pitts style muffler in my Yellow Spit with the Moki 1.8. It's a good combination and I believe that the Moki 1.8 and 2.1 have the same bolt pattern so you should be able to use the same muffler. BobH.

Just a little food for thought. I purchased a TF kit built GS P51 with a Moki 210 in her and although she flew scale , I was looking for a little more. I tried different props and nothing seemed to improve the performance. The engine was by no means a dog. It would turn up a MA 20X10 prop at 7500. I installed a DA 50R turning a 22X10 and could not believe the difference in performance. Both are rated around 5 HP. One other item to consider is fuel consumption. The 210 will suck down 2.5 oz/min at full throttle. That's a lot of fuel. With a 24oz tank , you'll only get a 8 minute flight with 2 minute reserve. I know most of my flying with the 210/P51 combo was full throttle. I just want to state for the record , I do like the Moki in the right application. I have a 210 in a Midwest Cap 232 and love it. Most of the flying is around 1/2 throttle which makes all the difference.

RE: Moki 210

The muffler you will need is the inverted pitts from slimline. I have this same setup in my WM 80in mustang and the engine is completely concealed inside the cowl except at the bottom see pic both sides of cowl are the same. I run a really high pitch prop combo for top speed 18x14 and I do not have problems with landing speeds, flaps help. FYI I am still running a little rich and getting 7k RPM on the ground, pretty good combo if your looking for speed. With the heavier plane may have a longer take-off run, mine takes about 65-75 ft on a rough grass surface w/o flaps. My plane is a little under 18lbs, but I believe with a 20x10 prop the engine puts out about 24 or 25lbs of thrust, which should get the TF mustang off the ground pretty quick. Good luck.

Thanks Bob,this is getting better as we go.Mungan, thanks for your input to.Splais put a DA50 in his and complained about how much cutting he had to do.But, he was using a 4 bladed prop and he loaded his to the gills with goodies and he needed the extra muscle. Kidd I like your plane, thanks for your help.Do you have factory retracts or what??Lets get a full pic of your plane.Who is Bonnie???

RE: Moki 210

Thanks for the compliments prop wash. Its actually Bunnie, the plane is modeled after the one that Roscoe Brown flew. Bunnie was the name of his daughter. He was the flight leader of the 100th F/S part of the 332nd fighter group (Tuskegee Airmen). He shot down an Me-262 with that plane. I kit bashed the heck out of the WM arf with the scale tail retract and full cockpit kit from top flight, along with custom paint and decals. I just need to find a full light weight pilot now for about a 1/5.5 scale mustang.

Thanks Kidd, great pics.Too bad the Tuskegee Airmen had to wait over 50 yrs to be recognised for their battle records.I just started to work on my left and right wing halves, cuting out the servo bays and the retract bays.Keep the thead going. I hope it helps someone else to.Tom

I too am interested to see how well a Moki 2.10 will work in a TF P-51. I have posted this question earlier and never got any response. I mix my own fuel and get nitro and alcohol for free and since a Moki doesn't like nitro I guess that doesn't matter. Hopefully, anyone that uses this combination will keep us posted as to how well it works.

RE: Moki 210

Thanks for the kind words propwash. :D Here's an idea of how the mustang performs. These are some video's of my 3rd flight I had a lot of scale detail off like spinner and lower cowl and the engine was still not broken in and was running fairly rich. The prop was 20x10, and the plane lifted off between 60-75% throttle. But remember mine is about 4lbs lighter than the TF, I'm at 17.5 lbs, but I still think you will have ample power. O yeah and to your earlier question I am using the stock retracts. you may want to right click and save target as to get the videos. Good luck to all.

Thanks for the fliks Kidd, they were great.I can't wait to get mine in the air.I really like your field to.Where is it? I only have access to grass fields.I know it's great because back in the late 60s and early70s I had access to the Griffith airport in Indiana.I was flying a Sperry Messenger then and a Phil Kraft Bar-Fli.Tom

That was actually at the vacant end of Page airport just west of Oklahoma City, my buddy owned a real plane there and we flew off of the east end where there was no air traffic. I usually fly off of grass and the performance is really good on grass also grass is a lot better if you ever have gear problems. Here is my flying fields website. http://www.westside-rc.org me and my mustang are on the cover page also the slideshow at the bottom has some more stang pics.

prop wash,

A friend of mine tells me the Mokis run great on go cart fuel, but not to exceed 4,500 RPM during break in. He says this fuel is about 2.00 per gallon.

Never heard of go-kart fuel? What exactly is it? I know my Moki does not like any fuel with more that 5% Nitro. Years ago when the Moki's first were becomming popular a lot of guys were running 15% nitro and higher. Their engines would over heat. When they changed to 0-5% the problems went away. Just something to keep in mind for the Moki.

Semper Fi. My brother is in the Marines. Graduated from boot camp in san diego about a week before 9/11/2001. Now he's stationed at the Marine air station in Yuma, Az. But he always goes back and forth to Camp Pendleton. I think thats where he did the Crucible (hope thats spelled right) at? Oklahoma's change a lot since then, if you ever pass through here give me a hollar.

Go Kart fuel??? Only thing I know thats $2 a gallon is gasoline, which is what all of the go karts I know of run off of.
