GSP hellcat????????
i would like to buy the GSP hellcat,it had good review's in model airplane magazine.
has enyone flown one,and if i put a 91 2 stroke in it ,do i have to put alot of nose weight in to it. please let me know thanks:D |
RE: GSP hellcat????????
Another club member at my field has had one for about a year or more, He has an OS 120 in it with lead in the nose , I don't know how much. The plane flys great. If you put a 91 2 stroke I would expect to add a bunch of weight...

RE: GSP hellcat????????
I have this Hellcat. I used a OS-.91FX in it and had to add about 8-9 oz.s.
The .91FX flys it good, but wish it had more power. A 1.08 would be nice in it or Yes, a 1.20 4-stroke. |
RE: GSP hellcat????????
I have one with an OS 1.20 Surpass III pumper and Slimline inverted Pitts muffler. Plenty of power and sounds great. No extra lead was needed in the nose. In fact, I had to mount the receiver battery pack behind the servo tray to get the plane to balance.

RE: GSP hellcat????????
hey Richard L any problems w/ the plane over the time you have owned it>? I too am interested in getting one I had the Corsair but most of us know the inherent problems it had..I would like the Hellcat..
|
RE: GSP hellcat????????
I still have the Hellcat in my hangar. The engine flamed out on take off one day, and the plane did a nice cartwheel into the grass at the end of the runway, which resulted in some small cracks at the root of the rear stab. The whole rear stab began to develop a flutter at full throttle, so I cut an access panel at the bottom of the fuse just ahead of the tail wheel to gain access to the inside of the fuse. I glassed the whole area around the stab root, and the flutter stopped. This wasn't a flaw from the manufacturer. Other than this, the plane is a great flyer. As far as I can tell, the Hellcat doesn't really have any inherent problems like the Corsair.

RE: GSP hellcat????????
thanks for the tip
is it hard to install the engine on the hellcat, is the firewal already mark to drill the holes,do you have any tip's how to do it???????????? i want to buy the os120 four stroke w/o pump |
RE: GSP hellcat????????
It is very easy to install an engine on the Hellcat. Yes, the firewall has horizontal and vertical crankshaft centerlines. All you do is bolt the engine to the motor mounts and line up the engine crankshaft with the lines on the firewall. Measurements will need to be made to determine where to drill the four holes, but that should be a piece of cake.

RE: GSP hellcat????????
thanks again
do you have to build the trust in the firewall,or is it already build in. the retract that come with the plane, are they OK,or are they week. let me know, thanks:) |
RE: GSP hellcat????????
The firewall has built in right thrust and down thrust. The plane does not come with retracts. You have to purchase them separately and install them. Do not go with rotating mechanical retracts because they are "weak".

RE: GSP hellcat????????
HI,CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT SCALE THE HELLCAT IS SO I CAN GET A PILOT BUST FOR IT.LOOKS LIKE ABOUT 1/5,BUT NEED TO KNOW.
THANKS |
RE: GSP hellcat????????
Let's do some simple math. The real Hellcat has a 42 ft. 10 in. wingspan, which converts to 514 inches. The GSP Hellcat has a 70 in. wingspan.
Approximate scale = 514/70 = 7.34. So, the GSP Hellcat is close to 1/7 scale. Therefore, either a 1/7 scale or 1/6 scale pilot bust would work. I have a 1/6 scale pilot bust in mine, which fits fine. Math rocks! |
RE: GSP hellcat????????
thanks for the info on the scale now i can get a pilot.

RE: GSP hellcat????????
Hi guys just purchased a few days back a GSP Hellcat ... [8D] should be arriving within a few days..
I was thinking abour a 120 4 Stroke for this Bird. Choices SAITO (Top Choice) OS Magnum (Offers a very Good Price ) How is the OS working for you Richard ?? Any sugestions ?? Phantom Pty |
RE: GSP hellcat????????
OS 120 pumper is working just OK for me. Unfortunately, it already flamed out once on take off. I will be replacing it with a Saito 150 or a YS 140.

RE: GSP hellcat????????
RICHARD,
I JUST GOT A NEW OS 1.20 FOR MY HELLCAT.DO YOU THINK IT WILL PULL IT OR DO I NEED BIGGER.WHAT IS THE WEIGHT OF YOUR HELLCAT. THANKS FRED |
RE: GSP hellcat????????
Richard so you sugest larger engine than 120.?? would a 150 be to much ?
|
RE: GSP hellcat????????
A 120 four stroke will pull the Hellcat just fine. Mine is slightly less than 11 lbs.
|
RE: GSP hellcat????????
OK THANKS
FRED |
RE: GSP hellcat????????
Why are you thinking a SAITO 150 instead of a SAITO 120??
|
RE: GSP hellcat????????
I'm always looking for more power, and the Saito 150 is just a bored out Saito 120 (same physical size and same mounting dimensions). The Saito 150 valve covers will be completely inside the cowl because the engine cylinder head is 3mm shorter than the OS 120 cylinder head.

RE: GSP hellcat????????
I'm working on putting in a Robart retractable tailwheel. Anyone else done this and have any tips?
