A10
Has anyone built the A10 from RCM ?. How much did it weigh and what motor did you install. I have built one and am having lots of trouble setting up the motor. Thanks everyone.

Thanks Nony for your reply. Thats the one from "pastro". I've since flown it several times and am very happy with it. I have not had too much of a chance to wring it out though and now up here in Canada I've got too much snow. The last flights I had the landings were fast. Probably due to lack of experience on that particular plane. Too scared to go too slow.
I ended up putting a TT.46 in the plane as well. I could not get the LA .46 to run reliably with the perry pump. Ended up putting more weight in the nose due to the motor swap. That's my other question I have for you. How much did yours weigh ????. The one I built came in at 7 1/2 - 7 3/4 lbs. I have a pound (or there abouts) of lead in the nose. It seem's to fly ok and looks totally awesome in the air. If I had to build another, I would include lightening holes and perhaps functional rudders. |
A-10 Plans
Does anyone know where to get a set of plans for an A-10 or better yet a kit for one? I'm not going to be building it anytime soon, but would like to have an idea what they go for before the time comes.

And I think you can still get the plans for the George Miller at http://www.scalercmodels.com/rcplans.html#2 There is also the Combat Models one, and maybe a few others out there as well. Hope this helps, |

Peter... I can't recall what mine weighed (past tense) but it had no lead at all in the nose. Probably around the 6 lb range. Knowing what I know now, I would probably go for a ringed engine, or something larger - like a 53... The TT over heated something fierce if any time was wasted on the ground...it needed the cooling air blowing over it.
It flew great - it looked really, really cool in the air! ... and it landed quite slowly...I really didn't miss the rudders (more weight) but I would have liked to have had retracts on it.... As for the reference to the past tense, my son took it flying one day, and the aileron ball joint popped off. It rolled inverted right after takeoff and augered in. The wing survives, and will surface in a new project at some time in the future. |

The plane I built was from RCM www.rcmmagazine.com If I recall the plans were about $20.00 and I found them to be of good quality. |

I have had the plans for this plane for a long time, never got around to building though. Now that I have time to build again, the engine nacelles and other formed parts are no longer available from Bob Holman.
Anyone out there have a set they are willing to part with. John |

I'm getting ready to finish covering my A-10's tail section and I'll be done. Made the engine cowels out of soda bottles. They don't look to bad but not scale. I plan on building a vacum form box to do the wheel nacels and nose cone. never tried to vacum form before,should be interesting. I have a pair of spring air retracts and have an OS 46 fx for power. I repalced the 1/4 balsa sides for 1/8 and used the lightest balsa i had for the tail feathers. covered it with aluminum monocote and it looks good at 30 FT away so far. Don't know the weight as of yet. Should have it done in a couple of weeks if time permits and I'll post some pics. Happy Hunting |
