I've installed the elevators on my Hellcat and they kind of look like they're warped a bit. If you look from the end of them in torward the rudder it seems as though they're a little warped but both sides look symetrically warped. So I'm wondering if that's how they're built and the only thing that is warped is my brain??

That is exactly how mine came. Made it hard to get it right for maiden. Mine had a bunch of up in it since I didn't notice it till then. I had set it level but hadn't noticed that it had warp as it got closer to the fuse. But mine were also warped both the same amount.

Hey Richard L, I was wondering if you could provide the link where you found the photo of the engine, or provide the photo itself. I find the method you used looks just fine, if you can find the proper photo of the engine. Yours looks good.

My elevators were also warped a bit, and both sides were warped symmetrically, so I left them alone.

Thanks. I can't stand the looks of a large empty cowl opening or a plain black engine baffle. I don't remember where I found the photo of the engine, but I got it saved up on my hard drive somewhere. I will try to locate it when I get home from work tonight.

I think Richards idea for a dummy radial engine is very cool as well. However, if you want to purchase a dummy radial made of ABS plastic, Top Flight has one for a 1/8 scale plane that fits pretty good. I purchased mine from a local hobby shop.

HELP!
I just spray painted the top of my wing with Top Flight Flat Clear, based on recommendations from others in the forum. However, it left a rough, cloudy white finish on the wing. Basically I've just ruined the original finish. Any suggestions? Did I do something wrong?

I used Minwax Polyurethane on my CMP Mosquito. It seems to always play well with other paints, and it is more fuelproof than the Top Flite paint. For the Hellcat, I plan on adding a lighter blue between the grey and existing dark blue using Rustoleum, then put the Polyurethane over the new paint, weathering, and decals.

Use a plain BROWN paper bag and buff the area. The paper bag acts as a Very Fine sand paper. It should knock down the roughness and clear up some of the white. I used this method on monocoat and it worked well. Hope this trick does it for you. Let us all know one way or the other.

Usually, a cloudy finish indicates that you have traped moisture between the finishes. Make sure that you use a tack cloth before painting and the humidity must be low. Never use a damp rag to wipe the surface down just prior to panting. I used this product on my plane with great results. Also, there is an agent in the paint that causes the flat finish. If you get it too thick, you will see this start to opaque the finish. When using flat finishes, a steady stroke and no large build ups is very important. Is't better to go with say, two light coats verses one thick one. Hope it goes better for you.

Well ram-3500, I think you hit it on the head. I'm in Orlando and these days it is as humid as it gets. I'm sure that had something to do with it. I'm going to try the brown paper bag idea that Flying Irish mentioned. If that doesn't work, I guess I'll be re-painting.
Does anyone know of a spray can product/color that comes close to the Hellcat dark blue?

If you are going to be repainting, might as well repaint the entire plane in the correct color scheme: either overall glossy sea blue or original tri-color scheme consisting of white on the bottom, intermediate blue on the sides and vertical tail, and dark sea blue on top. The factory color scheme is just a made up color scheme with colors no where close to being accurate.

Does any one have a photo of the inside of the fuselage showing how the gas tank it secured and how the retract canister and lines are mounted?

Not a problem. Sorry, I don't have a picture showing the fuel tank, which was mounted in stock location with foam padding and rubber bands to keep it in place.

can someone please tell me what their wing weighes and the fuse weighs when finished... not total weight, but wing weight and fuse weight..... want to see if i'm on right track....

I guess I'll jump in here also. LOL I just started my Hellcat and couldn't leave well enough alone. I cut the aileron section and made the inner part as a section of flap to give it a more scale flap section. Then I discarded the rest of the aileron and scratched out a more scale barn door type. Had to cut into the wing trailing edge about an 1 in. to increase the area of the aileron.
Looks awesome!! I'll try to get some pictures.

Not a problem. I usually jot down the weight of the wing and fuse of each plane before I maiden fly it. So far I have a pretty good list.
