RE: CMP Hellcat
I'm using a Super Tiger G-90 for power.... from what I understand i should have plenty of power for scale flight and then some in reserve.. .do you use flaps for landing? is there much elevator trim needed when they're deployed?
|
RE: CMP Hellcat
yes I use the flaps. Just remember to fly it in for a landing because you don't want it to slow down too much on approach because of tip stall. I keep the power on a bit till just before touchdown it lands very nice.

casy , Nice paint job , looks good :D

RE: CMP Hellcat
Hey Everyone!!! I'm still assembling my hellcat and hit a roadblock. The tailwheel on this aircraft just
"looks" wrong. Has anyone installed a retractable or more "scale" looking fixed tailwheel in the correct location? and if so can you give me some insight as to what I'm getting myself into? Thanx in advance for any help!!! P.S. LDM I found a Great 1/7 scale pilot bust (Navy too) at MGAPILOTS.com, a little pricey perhaps but perfect! Regards, Pete |

I got the hellcat ready for maiden voyage. Believe it or not I put my fox 1.2 twin in it. I did the mods to the motor and built a custom muffler from aluminum to exit stock location on both sides. I'll try to attach a photo.Hopefully this weekend! Rick

rbp...
Nice Custom Exhaust...Is that twin in production anymore?? Nice H-Cat... BTW any pics of that twin engine SIG KOUGAR in the background???????? Kool... |
RE: CMP Hellcat
I did respray the plane, everytime I touched it the color soaked up everything! I sprayed dupont clear with a flat finish. I work at a body shop so we found a formula on the computer for flat clear ,it worked great. The plane wipes off easy.I was going to fly it for the first time yesterday but I lost one of the wing bolts. No one had a metric bolt with them. I forgot everything was metric on this thing. The engine was only built for about three or four years in the early 80's. Fox had plenty of problems with it losing a cylinder and overheating.fliteline solutions has a fix for it so I did the mods and seems a lot better, We'll see. I'll try to post a pic of the twin kougar, first four flights yesterday, AWESOME!!!! took home in one piece ,was a blast to fly. Rick

RE: CMP Hellcat
Hi guys ..!!! Just did my Maiden flight yesterday.
Everything was running great except for a little air leak on one of the lines of the right side main retract so we decide to leave the wheels standing out , after all it was only a test flight.. \ Beautiful afternoon .. A little windy but everything was running great so after a few engine adjustments we were all set to go..!! SAITO 1.5 performed excellent.. Nice stable idle specialy for only having a break .... A lot of Power so take of was solid, flys great , and landing was very nice and smooth.. I have to thank all of you guys who supported with your tips. and Richard thanks very much for you support..[sm=thumbup.gif] Will post some pictures if I ever figure out how.. Rgds |
RE: CMP Hellcat
I just had my maiden voyage yesterday with the fox twin. The plane flew great. A hefty cross wind on take off, I think I'll add in a little more rudder. Other wise the plane was rock solid .I was impressed by how nice it lands. Carried a little power to runway and let it settle in ,easy flare,AWESOME.!!!!! Thanks Rick

RE: CMP Hellcat
I am waiting for the CMP p40 however unlike this plane is does not have flaps , do you guys suggest this over a 73 bird with no flaps ?
|
RE: CMP Hellcat
Hi Richard,
Very nice footage! IMHO, you weren't all that 'sloppy' Love those flaps!. A bit of down elevator trim when flaps were deployed? Any special effort to get your lg axles forward-like wedges under the retract bases? Would you comment on how you matched touch-up paint? Brand, if you would. We plan to fiberglas mold some lg strut covers-getting the strut 'bulge' molded in. Seeing yours flying is really great incentive to get 'high behind!' Regards, jim |
RE: CMP Hellcat
hookemut, just a tad of down elevator trim when the flaps were deployed. I did not angle the lg forward with shims under the retract bases. My take off and landing shown in the videos in this thread were pretty "pathetic" compared to the other take off and landing videos that I posted elsewhere on RCU.

RE: CMP Hellcat
I finally got to maiden mine today and I still am in utter disbelief in how easy this thing was to fly.. absolutely a dream... didn't use the flaps much and did 4 flights and this thing floats forever... I had to almost double my approach to hit the runway... perfect two wheel landings all day... It flies well enough to be an "everyday" plane in my opinion... big smile :)

RE: CMP Hellcat
A few words of reminder wrt flap use:
Landing a clean, high performance fighter such as the Grumman F6 aboard a carrier was possible largely through the use of the plane's flaps. Adequate lift at a reduced forward velocity was the solution. Why not cut down the 'floating' by using the flaps? I have employed flaps on Stinsons, Republic P-47,and Ultra Lite Stick models. It's a ball to use flaps correctly! Regards, Jim |
RE: CMP Hellcat
I always use flaps to land my warbirds if they have them. The problem is the flaps on this Hellcat are too small and don't help much. Watch my landing video, and you will see that the flaps were deployed.

RE: CMP Hellcat
Flight Report !!!
Have been flying my CMP Hellcat on the last two weekends and is great......!!! Is incredible , how people on the field just sto pdoing what they are doing to see a nice warbird perform...[8D]!!! have not used flaps yet since is so windy... Engine running smoothly ( great Iddle) and the sound is awsome . I do think SAITO 1.50 is a bit overpowered for this model, I keep it most of the flight at 50% throtle and is fast... At 100% is just way off scale... Might go down to a Saito 1.20 and keep the 1.50 for a larger plane or Aerobatic .. CJ Retracts are performing great !!!! |
RE: CMP Hellcat
Do any of the CMP planes feature scale size flaps ?
