After reading most of the post on this thread. I've ordered the hellcat from Alex at A-K Model. Plan to do most of the mods shown here. I've allready striped the wing and tail of covering, cut the wing to 64inches, and marked the cut lines for control surfaces.

Good luck with your Hellcat. I was getting some elevator flutter in a dive with the stock linkage. I used a stronger rod (arrow shaft) and 4-40 rods on both ends and it cured the problem. You may want to make sure your elevator linkage is tight if your expecting to use a good size motor and power dive her. (I have a Saito 1.20 in mine).

Thanks for the info, I'll add it to the list of mods. I plan to use a Saito 1.20. I have had better luck with Saito over OS.

As for pushrods... you cant beat CF and titanium..... http://www.centralhobbies.com/contro...e/pushrod.html
This system is simply the best (IMHO)

Hey Virginian, I was reading the post about the Zenoah 20 with the CMP Hellcat, you said it flies well with this engine. Any problems getting it to fit? I'm thinking about this engine for my cat. Thanks Dcook.

I don't have one of these Hellcats, but I know they're larger than my P-36, and I got it to fit under the .60 size cowl with minumum penetrations.
Also, I took off the extended breather for the carb, you don't need it and that way, you wont have the big tube sicking out of the cheek.
good luck with that!

dcook;
One of our club members flies this combo. Flies very well, indeed. Doesn't seem to have any space problems under that cowl, either.

I've taken a break with mine and built a Neptune and a CMP Lancair but I'm about to start the fiber-glassing of the wings and tail surfaces.

Hey Guys,
I was wondering if anybody has any info on scale accessories for this bird?? I realize that Dion hasn't been heard from in a while and is probably not offering his killer extras. Any other sources?? say gear doors, canopies, etc. anything? thanks. DCook

Brian Taylor has a model that is the same size but I had looked and it said he was taking some time off and that was the last that was posted on the website. Had heard that Luke was planning on making some another run of partss but that is all I know. I really would like to purchase a Brian Tayor cowl for mine hope he offers them again soon.

I'm working on the wing. Span is cut down to 64 inches. Started on cut the trailing edge for scale flap & ailerons. The fuse has been sanded down and horiz. stab is mounted.

I thought Bob Holman plans also sales the cowl.

The fiberglass cowl is not that nice. All that is needed to make the stock one nice is to add a ring on the inside at the rear and one at the front to mount a dummy radial to.

I'm adding rivet details now to my fiberglassed wings. Hope to finish it up before the end of the year. I'm debating on whether to to pick up the CMP 71" Mustang and do the same to it as I am doing to this Hellcat. I want a Mustang but I don't know which one to go with. there are so many out there to choose from.

Well I decided to put a Gas motor in mine instead. I removed my Saito 150 and installed a G-23. Only had to move the battery back about 5" to CG and love how it runs. Only had to make a small hole for the sparkplug cap. Made my own exhaust that exits at the botom. Very pleased and pennies to fly.

Warks, what kind of prop are you running on the G-23? I am going with the G-20, and I don't have a clue which prop would be the best.

Got any pics on the custom exhaust? I'm thinking of picking up a G-20 for mine and would love to see what you did.

RE: CMP Hellcat

I will be working on mine some more this next weekend I think. I will take some pics. As far as prop right now I have a 15-8 APC have also tried a 16-10 MA Classic but just didn't pull the R's that I wanted. Next I want to try a Graupner 15-8 3 blade.
I have made many of my own exhaust out of thin walled steel tubing. I usually start out with a 1" square tube that gets bolted to the head with 1/2" down tubes. On this one I used a 5/8" single down tube. I just braze them together and of course cap and braze the ends closed. I would love to TIG them using aluminum but don't have access to one so I use steel but they really are not that heavy since I use thin wall. Of course not everyone has access to a torch either but is usually easier to come by. I find that most mufflers just don't fit without severe cutting of the cowl so I make my own.
