RE: CMP Hellcat
I'll let you know once I get it to run - very dissapointing night tonight (it's 0100 and I just got back from my buddy's house) My YS120 is producing zero fuel pressure, so I'm online searching for fuel pump diagnostics (Milady is in San Francisco, so the dog and I are bach'ing it)
Will run inverted (tank is above carb) but sitting on the hgear, my tank isn't pressurizing (YS have a pump, don't use the exhaust for pressurization) |
RE: CMP Hellcat
Jeff is your check valve installed in the right direction? It is a one way valve.
|
RE: CMP Hellcat
Yep - but it's the ball bearing type -and turned out to be missing the spring (so it was checking both ways)
Pump on the motor flat out isn't working - posted over to the YS Engine forum, tried all the solutions people came up with. About 1800 decided to thropw in the towel, unbolted it and boxed it up -sending it to YS on Monday. |
RE: CMP Hellcat
Update:
Motor went to YS Parts and Service in Minden - came back running like a top. We maidened her Saturday morning - flies very nice (although I'm going to have to mix some down elevator in with throttle - climbs a bit on power) Didn't retract the gear on flight #1, second flight did - and the damn Robart 615's collapsed on landing :( Will be talking to LADO today about electric actuators, and Sierra about their retracts. Overall - still One Happy Camper. |
RE: CMP Hellcat
Mine's still not ready. Life has got in the way. I did take it to a local E-Flyin to show it off in near flying form. Here is a pic my buddy snapped of it for me.

Life, and a tornado or too, eh? Looks great!
Just got off the phone with Randall at Sierra - he's a bit richer.. |
RE: CMP Hellcat
Hi Guys, I just sold my Hellcat, I had the O.S .91, with JR Equipement. I never had a chance to fly her. I always had trouble getting the CMP to balance out correctly. Has anyone else run into this? The only reason I ask, is the last one I flew dropped the tail as if it was a roller coaster ride. I was able to land, lucky landing. So I've stayed away from CMP. Maybe I just didn't have it right or just had one of the lemon ARF'S. Any ways, how does the Hellcat fly? It's too bad, I had mine RTF but had to sell it due to wifes medical bills. starcop

RE: CMP Hellcat
Thanks.... the canopy was held on by a piece of tape :P
No tornado's have hit in my town but there have been some nasty ones around. We have had some pretty bad winds with the thunderstorms but luckily no damage at my place. Life has been the 2.5 boys I have and the new hanger.... errr garage going up. I say hangar my wife says garage.... we'll see who's right :) I have a set of century jet retracts with custum struts. They were used but seem to be working okay. However I have only taxied them and not landed on them. If they don't pan out I'll be calling Sierra too. Let us know how yours turn out. Steve |
RE: CMP Hellcat
starcop - no CG issues with mine (didn't add any weight), but I have a YS 120 up front, a large 6V RX battery up against the firewall above the fuel tank, and an onboard glow driver (which sits ahead of the CG). Came in at 11.2 lbs.
Other than a tendancy to climb on throttle, no real bad habits (other than that pesky landing gear!). I'll mix some elevator to throttle, program aileron differential, be good to go. Steve - watched on NEXRAD when the weather was headed your way (and towards Jordan) - I'll stick to my earthquakes :) |

Hey Oldfart1, Yeah, I used the stock landing gear. I had to "beef it up"; I learned from a Spitfire 1.20 From CMP. Actually now that I remember that Spitfire I had was China Model Products and it flew great! You can see in my gallery all the War-bird I owned by CMP...I still have 2 Mustangs, and are building a GP Mustang currently. I may have to buy another CMP Hellcat and install a 4 stroke. Here's a pic of the Mustang. Thanks for the info. starcop

RE: CMP Hellcat
What size? Master Airscrew has several.

RE: CMP Hellcat
Hi,
I'm going to use a Saito 120 also. Is it the 120 or newer 125? Any issues or advise? Thanks Shubova [8D] |
RE: CMP Hellcat
Anyone remember the paint codes/source for the STOCK paint scheme? I can alweays search back through the 82 pages :) Need to do some touch up before I clear coat the fuselage Thursday night

I used to run a Graupner 14X7 3-blade on mine. It made some nice prop noise in a dive that it will likely make in level flight with a 1.25 (I have a Saito 1.20 in mine). The props are costly and the plane performs much better with a 15X8 APC 2-blade, so that's what I have on it now. I don't think there is anything from Master Airscrew that would work well due to limited size choices and the thin blades on their three blade props. Stick a big three blade on it for static display, then swap it out for a good performing two blade when you want to fly.

RE: CMP Hellcat
jeff,
was thinking 14x7 or so thx charles |
RE: CMP Hellcat
Charles
http://www.masterairscrew.com/index....gory=12&Page=2 Can't speak to how well it will work on your motor, as I run a YS 120. The guy at YS Service told me the only reason to EVER run anything but a 16x8 APC pattern prop would be if there were none left on the planet :) |
RE: CMP Hellcat
thx jeff
I was thinking more for the look than anything. I like the way it looks. Wont be using it to fly with. thx charles |
RE: CMP Hellcat
LOL - I have a 15x8 MAS that will probably never see flight (for the same reasons)
|
RE: CMP Hellcat
I run a 15-8 3-blade Gruapner on mine with a 26cc gasser. The 3-blade MA's don't work very well at all just to flexable and flaten out. The APC's are the best for speed but mine is fast as it is so not really a issue plus it looks nice both running and static. The Gruapner's are the best that I can tell good thrust and speed. Just my experiance. If you have a motor that produces a lot of power then the 3-blade won't hurt you but if you need speed go with the APC.

RE: CMP Hellcat
Ok guys here is the deal, Im new to the hobbie and love it. But I dont have a whole lot of knowledge about what goes with what. This is my first plane this size. Note: I have 3 other nitro planes that i fly but thay are smaller. I was taking the advice from an owner of a local hobbie shop that had to close. So i am almost finished with it. I have a saito 125 coming on the 9th to power this bird. I don't really know what APC means or even what website to go to. I would realy like to fly this bird with a 3 blade prop. . can you guys please help me?

Randy
thx alot that really helps charles |
RE: CMP Hellcat
Well, my Sierra Precision retracts were sitting on my desk today when I got to the airport - they're so nice I don't know whether to install them or put them in a shadow box and hang it on the wall :)
